I wanted to know if I would be able to put an 06 YFZ LED light on an 04 YFZ tail light wiring?? (In other words!! Get an 06 LED light and plug it into the same wiring as the 04 tail light?) If not, then what would I need in order to make it work??
Bugsy
good question for the folks at www.yfzcentral.com

hate to guide people away from glamisdunes.com but they have answers over there...

so when you find out... post the answer here too

Quadracerdan
ok thanks I will try that website out!
tyler_0172000
hey if you dont have a id on yfz central ill post it and tell ya what they say
SANDFANATIC
I did it.

Yes it will work with minor modifications. The reversed the plugs so, you'll have to cut the plugs off and switch them. I did it on the tail light side. Other then that the light bolt onto the bracket a little different so, try and get the bracket for the LED light as well.
socaldmax
You should be able to just splice it in to the existing wiring.

when you step on the brakes, 12V is 12V.

By putting the LED light, Will it drain the battery faster??
SANDFANATIC
No. The LED light takes less power.
Quadracerdan
Oh ok! And your saying to get the bracket for the LED light too right?? Will it bolt straight on?
SANDFANATIC
It should. I'm not 100% sure though. I didn't get the bracket because, I didn't know it was different. So, I just made it work with the 04 bracket.
Quadracerdan
Oh ok thanks for your help SANDFANATIC and everyone else!!

Pull the light off and wire up a couple of these in the hole that the bracket went in. Easy to do and looks trick!

Thanks for the link But I think I'm going to go for the stock 06 YFZ LED Light. I really like the way that those look!

Interesting.

I just had a customer return a 2006 tail light and said it didn't work on his 2004.

He must have not known how to do it.

When you turn on the key and lights of an 04 YFZ do the headlight/tailights come on? I thought the 04's sent AC voltage to the lights, if it's AC then an led won't work.

I had no issues at all. It was extremely easy. The wire colors are the same on both lights and do the same thing.

The headlights are the only thing that gets A/C voltage. At least that is how my 04 is wired. If you turn your key on and the lights on (with out running the bike) your tail light will come on. The brake light comes on when you hit the brakes also (with out running the motor).

I've been thinking about those. How do you like them? Do they have brake lights built into them? I haven't seen any with brakelights in them.
Bansh88
No brake light.
I freakin love them. They are so small, you don't even see the fixtures during the day. Very bright at night. I mounted them in the stock location but you could get creative very easily. I have 2 on my '06 and 1 om my '02. They come in about 8 different colors too.
SANDFANATIC
I was thinking about buying 5 of them. The 2 outer ones would be tail lights and the 3 inner ones would be brake lights. Do you think that would work or are they to bright for that? I'm just worried about the person behind me not seeing the extra lights when they come on.

you could run 10 led's on the back and not match the draw of one conventional bulb.
only thing with led's is that ground on the light has to be connected to ground unlike regular bulbs that will work no matter witch way you hook up the wires.
so if the one guy's light did'nt work it was probably due to wires on the harness being reversed.

led's are up their with space travel.

Thanks for clearing that for me Sandfanatic, I was sure at least one end of and 04 was AC. Speaking of LED tails, anyone want to get rid of their Raptor 700 tail? Those look sweet, $77.00 from Yamaha.

never too bright. If you could figure out the wiring, i'm sure it would work.

I've ridden behind people without anyy tail lights. It sucks! Anything is better than nothing.

No problem. I just can't understand why they did that. Everything is DC powered except the headlights. I think they should have just made the entire bike DC powered but, oh well. I guess that's why I'm not designing them.

and where do theysell these?

I know Alba sells them or you can get them from Radlites directly.

Not exactly, if you hook up an LED to AC voltage (Banshee, LT250-500, ATC/TRX250R) what you get is a pulsating LED, I assume because Alternating Current is only going the right direction during half the cycles. I tried it on my LT500 and like I said above, it only pulsated, lamely at that. Gotta have 12V DC, unless the LED has it's own converter of which, I've never seen one advertised, they could exist but I've never seen one.

Do you guys know how much I can get an 06 LED light from a Yamaha Dealer for?? Or do you guys know of any good places to bye them from?

So............LEDs would not work on a banshee? Due to the lack of a battery?

You can run them. They will just pulsate like the stock light. Bansh88 uses them on his Banshee's. He would probably have more feedback on it. As far as I see it, they just won't be bright until you're RPMs are up.
Bansh88
I run 2 led Radlites. They turn on bright and stay bright. As far as I know, they maintain same level of light. Maybe someone who has riddin behind me can comment

You are probably right. They don't take much power to run. I was just assuming.

I was mistaken. The Tail light is AC powered too. Only the brake light is DC. I went riding this weekend and double checked everything. The low idle powers the LED lights brightly though. So, there is no pulsing of the LEDs.
