I just spoke with Charlie from Planet Sand. This event was NOT a sponsored or sanctioned event of Planet Sand. It was one of their members that got a bunch of people together to race.
HOWEVER, even though it was not an event of theirs, Charlie would like to make "right" on this issue. I will direct him to Tim to take care of things.
Cool that he wants to make it right, but there should have been NOTHING to make right. Him saying it was a member that organized the race is like Slappy saying "Well, our members trashed wash 13.5, but it doesn't have anything to do with GD.com." Which of course would never happen. Or how about the Golf Tourney? I don't recall anyone ever saying anything about picking up after ourselves... WE JUST DO IT.
Sounds to me like the entire ATTITUDE of the people involved with this race needs to be changed. And it starts with the TOP... the owners of the website that ALLOW them to be members.
Do you really think Slappy would ALLOW trashing of the dunes to be done by a member of GD.com without throwing a MAJOR fit? No way!
Sorry for the long rant, this stuff just pisses me off.
And a HUGE THANKS to Tim, you rock. I've been there, a sole person filling up bag after bag of other people's trash, and it sucks.

Did have a bunch o zonies who came in and rode circles around the trailers while we were catching a cat nap to get us through the nite.
Thanks Tims and others who are trying to get these peeps nailed.

Charlie should lay down the law on his website. If anyone promotes an event in the dunes, they better make sure the sand is cleaner when they leave than when they arrived. Spell it out real clear that littering will not be associated anymore with his website.

Is there a system to "register" the promoters? That way they will be held responsible and fined for anyone who litters. I believe that would make the "promoters" real serious about not leaving a mess. This really is unfortunate.

Awesome job Tim... but that goes without saying.
But also, awesome job everyone else. This is exactly what we need to do, not just here on this site but while at Glamis and at all times, really.
We saw an injustice to Mother Glamis and we made sure something was done about it...
And it seems it's being done. Hopefully the lesson is learned this time and we now have a ton more converts!
There will always be bad apples. We can just do what we can to weed them out.
And while I agree with shawns premis, to an extent, I also think that the better way to handle it is to bring these guys out in the open and then show the world that that stuff is no longer tolerated.
Our stuff is kept clean because we care, and we know how important it is. It's up to us to teach that to everyone else.
But, we've also got to realize when the lesson has been learned. There's a fine line between outrage, and a lynch mob.
I'm going to try to put an adopt-a-wash message together to bring over there. Hopefully, this kind of thing will never happen again.

Yes there is. But the BLM is currently using it to charge everyone.
The exemption in the FLERA that the BLM is using to implement fees in the ISDRA was specifically written to address organized events that put a larger than normal burden on the management agency.
But the BLM uses this fee as an excuse to charge everyone a "use fee" since they're not legally allowed to charge a parking or entrance fee. So since they're using it for everyone they can't really use it as it was intended to help cover the impact of large events.

Just my opinion here,
Any bad press, is basically BAD PRESS
so by posting pics here, is essentially bad. No matter who did what, it is bad for the duning community. Why is it everytime something bad happens at the ISDRA, it has to be plastered all over the WWW for every eco nazi to gather more ammo against us. Tim this is not a personal attack towards you, believe me, i applaud what you do, but hey you have the 4X4 truck , you have the trash bags, you went and took the pics , why not just pick it up before anyone else sees it.
AGAIN Just my opinion...

This is a bullshiat opinion if you ask me. You gonna raise your kids this way to? Is this the way Weekend Warrior does business as well, don't let anyone know there's a problem, just fix it before anyone knows about it.
In MY opinion, Tim's meassage of "There's some pigs in the dunes and we're not gonna put up with that shiat around here" needs to get out. Just maybe these a-holes will think twice before doing it again.
Whoa...easy there Bohica, Bullsh@#$ opinion?? arent opinions just what they are? opinions? does it really matter what you think of my opinion. Im really sorry you seem to feel that way about me.
Did I ever say I condone the behavoir of being a pig or leaving trash?
Why would you bring Weekend Warrior in to this? Thats just LOW class.
I see your pointing out when I did say before anyone sees it. Ok I admit that sounds a little like hiding it. But if you knew anything about me or what I stand for, I dont hide anything.
Will I raise my kids what way?
So now you're bringing my family into it? thats sounds personal to me.
Im pretty much speechless by your response. Thanks, Shawn
To everyone else all, what I was TRYING to say is, everytime we publicize the shiat out the NEGATIVE stuff that goes on at G , which is gonna happen. The negative events will never go away people. They might be reduced , which great I agree. But as long as we publicize the crap outta them it just gives the opposition more ammo . thats all im trying to say.
As for Donating to the Tims Trash Truck. Of course Ill donate. I always donate for the good of the ISDRA. I was the first and and original sponsor here on GD.com.
Hope any I have offended understands what I have tried to say . Thanks again, Shawn

I applaud Charlie for stepping up and taking steps to clean up Planet Sands image and the dunes.
I see its going to be an uphill battle after reading some of the posts over there. They seem to think it it US ( some of us posting under our GD board names) that made the mess and are blaming Planet Sand people. From many of the posts there, they have the idea that the trash fairy left all the mess, and no one from their gathering is responsible.
I wish all the luck to Charlie to get the message through to his masses!

It's open season on punks who throw trash. If I see someone littering, I'll ask them to pick it up nicely, once. After that, I will do whatever is necessary to get that person to pack their trash out.
As for Bohica's child raising expertise, the proof is in the pudding. His 2 daughters are the epitome of well mannered behavior, and it was no accident.
For those of you you incapable of UNDERSTANDING what you see printed on your monitor, I'll clarify for you. In both instances, he questioned the JUDGEMENT of the parent in regards to their children, he NEVER attacked anyone's child.
There is a big difference, and what disturbs me more is to read posts from people who cannot understand the difference between an opinion, an attack, or even what the subject of the post was about.
I understood EXACTLY what the point was. When I was a kid and I broke a window, there were consequences for it. Any attempt to hide, deny or rationalize the broken window resulted in 5x more severe punishment for it. This teaches honesty, and when a person suggests hiding something as a means of dealing with it, one naturally extrapolates that this is how that person deals with things, he hides them.
Now where does one's children learn their moral values? From the TV set, the cereal box, at school or their parents?

Thanks to Tim for doing what he always does... picking up after other people's kids and not sweeping it under the rug like some would want done. You have to point this type of behavior out... at any time possible... as soon as it happens.

Bohica-what makes you the child raising expert and why the family/child attacks lately?
It's called a metaphor, defined as a direct comparison between two or more seemingly unrelated subjects.
I was making the comparison of his opinion that Tim should have just cleaned it up and not posted anything about it to having one's kids making a mess or getting into trouble and what actions he would take. If it was Weekend Warrior getting trashed, I'd put money on what actions he'd take, and it sure wouldn't be backing down or covering it up out of fear of the competition.
Tim's position is to educate duners, not clean up after them. Getting the message out that duners will not put up with this type of behavior is one that has to made. Yes, people trashing the dunes is bad news, but the message that we are doing something about it is great press in my opinion.
Once again, thank you Tim for all you do.

I am responding here to say we are sorry for the TRASH left behind from the night racers. I would like to clarify that the night races were not sponsored, organized, ar attended by the owners of Planet Sand. However, we are told by many that the hill was left trashed, once again. Speaking on behalf of many of the Planet Sand members, we cannot justify that it was our racers or local enthusiasts that created the issues. We know we have some awesome members on the website that would never allow this to happen. Since this has been an ongoing issue, we are going to stand behind our members and the website. We are going to step up and make some provisions that the next time there is a night race we will step up and be responsible for the trash at the hill.
We have spoken with both Wild Bill and GlamisPilot and have created a Glamish Trash Fund. Planet Sand is now becoming a major sponsor of this effort. All proceeds will go to Tim Gantz and his yellow Funco truck in effort to clean up the dunes.
We will also once again try to educate our members the importance of keeping the dunes CLEAN. We are currently working on organizing a Planet Sand Dune Clean Up.

Bill, maybe you should point them slappy's way....it might be a great opportunity to get their website to join in the adopt-a-wash, in a large, official way, like promoting it with their members, and maybe being the official sponsor of the olds hill adopt-a-wash section? To me, it would be great if all the websites could promote the anti-litter message through Slappy's program.
Beautimous idea BH, Slap loves the way you think. A little edumacation could go a long way. But, Slap also thinks a little tact and respect for MOther G would also be the key. Great job GP, you is a Slappy Favorite no doubt. Hard work pays off, and good folks like you are a wonderful part of the SlapArmy.
BansheeChick, thank you. Could Slap assume dat PlanetSand will become part of Slap's Adopt A Wash? And thank you for supporting such an effort with GlamiPilot, he be a good man. Sure would love to have PlanetSand join the Olds group in the Adopt A Wash effort.

HMMM, Slap's wonderin what a little competition would do? GD.com vs PlanetSand in some races, then do a clean-up afterwards, with all of the SlapArmy and planetsand folks? Incorporate it into one of GP's mini clean-ups? HMMM, SLAPPY JUST LOOOOOVE TO GET ON THE GATE...

This happened last year, and a big stink was raised about it.
Now it happened again, and it looks even worse than last year.
So how do we know that this won't continue for a 3rd or 4th year? The message should have gone out loud and clear last year, and again before this event this year.
Forgive my realistic view of the situation, but AFTER you have 2 or more events with photo proof that the place is clean afterwards (and maybe some pics of huge bags of trash getting hauled out in the beds of trucks) then I will celebrate your commitment to keeping the dunes clean.
So far, it's good talk. When I see actual proof of it, then I will be convinced.
It works both ways, if you sponsor a clean up event, I will be there.
We have a McPenis page here, anyone who acts like a jerk or leaves trash gets publicly called out, with pics if possible.
You could have a similar program, turn in a litterbug. Anybody caught littering gets banned from the site or publicly called out over it. The owners of a website in effect have control over their members and how they behave, the members in turn have peer pressure control over other people who are in the vicinity as well. It's how you exert that control that is the key to getting something done.

I believe most of our members are good people. I am hearing a little through to grapevine as to who some of the big trash offender were. Problem is, they share the same interests as many of our members and race the hill, but they are not members in Planet Sand. They may be ignorant to the problem. I believe that most of our members have became very aware of the trash issues. - I know first hand that there has been an improvement with some of our members. Members who didn't have respect last year, are now cleaning up and promoting others to do the same. At least it's a step in the right direction.

The trash is unacceptable, period. However, I do appreciate HI's and Pastors comments on how best to handle it. It is obvious this board has enough credibility that speaking up at Planet Sand and here was sufficient to get the point across. My worry by contacting the LEO's and advising them of an illegal event (it wasnt an event) will bring repercussions to the EPO, Four Stroke Wars and other NON-Events that are positives for the Glamis community and duners at large.

OK I guess some have read or understood where i have admitted and retracted where I stated I did make a mistake. Some may have looked at it the wrong way.
Quote from one of my replies "I see your pointing out when I did say before anyone sees it. Ok I admit that sounds a little like hiding it. But if you knew anything about me or what I stand for, I dont hide anything." Once again I was WRONG, at least I admit when I am wrong .
I didnt mean for it sound like hurry up cover it up clean it up, dont let anyone see it. Jeez people. I seriously dont why I even read this negative BS its just gets me all wound up. You guys have your fun he said , she said. Take it as you like.
Im sorry if I have offended anyone. If you you think I raise my children a certain way , well thats your right to think that way. If want to think a certain way about about weekend warrior well you also have that right.
Again all I was trying to say is bad press is bad press. do we have too blast so much.
Kinda like when the Mr. Patterson does his documenteries (sp) everyone complains. I dunno Im just a sand addict who dosent want any more dunes close down...

HMMM, Slap's wonderin what a little competition would do? GD.com vs PlanetSand in some races, then do a clean-up afterwards, with all of the SlapArmy and planetsand folks? Incorporate it into one of GP's mini clean-ups? HMMM, SLAPPY JUST LOOOOOVE TO GET ON THE GATE...
hey slapster....how about this...the top 20 gd.com EPO'ers versus the top 20 PlanetSanders in an epo style event, may the best board win, proceeds going to GP's gas fund. (no shirts needed to keep the maximum $$'s going to the dunes)
