Hello everyone. I've been lurking here for quite a while, but have never been to Glamis. I'm looking to go this year, just wondering when the temps get nice enough and where is the best place to go. I've been to St. Anthony in Idaho, Coral Pink, Dumont and Amargosa, so I'm not new to four wheeling. Just looking for something new. headbang.gif

halloween is the first big holiday. a lot of people there then. probably the second busiest holiday, thanksgiving being the first. i always go to gecko rd, pad 2. thats my favorite spot. never camped at wash 13.5 but every one else, well most every one likes there. i would like to camp there but every time we go i always end up wanting to go to pad 2.
Quicksilver
Also wondering where the best place is to camp where I won't get the truck and toy hauler stuck. Thanks
duneatic
where i said. gecko rd is a paved rd with hard packed dirt for pull outs to camp on. as long as you stay on the road and pads, you wont have any chance of getting stuck. wash road would be really hard to get stuck on. its a dirt road that they plow sometimes. the washes are hard packed too. i dont think the blm plows them but you shouldnt get stuck.

A good first trip would be to camp in 13.5. You would have a lot of differant people to ride with and show you around. Then when you come back you will have a better idea of were you would go again.

and a lot of beer... laughing.gif but yes that is a very good point. you will definiantly have a group to ride with.

Gecko is a great place to camp... anywhere at Glamis is great. Gecko vs. the washes is always up for debate... the reality of it is that there's tradeoffs for both dunno.gif

Either way, as long as you stay on the pads (don't go more than 50' away from pavement) off Gecko... or don't go too deep (into the scrub brush) at the washes you shouldn't get stuck.

13.5 is a great place to go meet new people... plenty of people to ride with at all different skill levels and there's always a helping hand if ya need it. Good/bad/or indifferent your really on your own at Gecko unless you line something up with another group dunno.gif

looks like you are in Vegas, same here. I stay in the washed, never had a problem with getting stuck, but you can, if you do not watch where you are going. We are going out Colombus weekend, still a little warm, but we go when we can. Going to hit Dumont a coupel times this year also........have fun and safe duning

i've had many people help me at gecko. you can still get help on gecko, you just have to ask instead of people coming over to you.

Thanks for the replies everyone. Yes, I am from Vegas area (Boulder City). It looks like it will be 13.5 for us this year. I'm getting ready for Coral Pink this weekend, can't wait to get back on the quad and go up some hills. Any of the Vegas people have some recomendations as to which route is the best to get to Glamis and how long the drive is?

I live in North Las Vegas, and I go out the 93, south to Needles, east on the 40 to the 93 south to Blythe, 10 west about 4-6 miles to the 78 south to Brawley. You zig-zag a few miles around farmers fields(stop signs) at eash intersection. then just follow it towards Glamis/Brawley. You will see the Cell tower as you get closer, when you cross over the R&R tracks you will turn left onto wash road just east of the Glamis Dunes Store.......then follow the wash road in to 13.5... look to your left at the track, each tressle underpass is a wash, numbered 1 to at least 22.....most of them have the numbers painted on them... good luck and see you out there some time...

I think mostly everyone stays at 13.5 on here.Personally i cant stand the washes,Dirty as a mother effer out there. We used to stay at roadrunner but now you need to be out there on a sunday to get a spot over there. We been staying at pad 3 the last couple of years and its not bad.

I camp in the Glamis Flats / Vendor's row area and like despite the bad press it gets. It's easy in...easy out. Access to the vendors to just look or get something to eat if you don't feel like cooking. Plus I take my kids up there on a walk and get them ice cream.

if it's your first time, hook up with someone who has been there.....if you've never been there it'd be easy to get lost and turned around and spend a day in the crappy stuff, and then spend the night trying to get back to camp....

plus, there is an unwritten calendar of events for the day, and it's easy to see everything in a day, if someone knows where and when everything is at which means day two can be spent going where you want to go.

have fun
be safe
haul your trash out
whish is what everyone else will tell you

he brought up a good point. the washes get dustier than hell. when i take a cruise down there it is horrible. you have to wear your goggles all the time when it gets bad. i have never had it dusty on gecko rd and i've been camping there for years now. it may get dusty if you camp by the drag stip, around pad 1. the only time it get dusty on gecko rd is when it gets windy, but it is dusty every where when it is windy.
