I want to rebuild and revalve my Fox air shocks. I have all the parts I need but I am having a hard time getting the bearing cap off. Can someone offer me a suggestion? I made a soft clamp for my vice to hold the body tight. Then I got a spanner wrench and ground the tip down so the pin fits into one of the three indents in the cap. I have reefeed on it pretty good but the cap doesn't budge. I am asking for advice before I screw my shock up. Is there a special tool I need? Do I have to heat it to break some thread lock or something? Wouldn't heating it damage the seals? I have not been able to find rebuild instructions anywhere and questions to the Fox tech line have just gone unanswered. Any help from someone who has done this would be great. Tks, Pat

One question have you released all of the air pressure? During our shock seminar it was mentioned even the pros forget to let it out on occasion and you will not be able to get the bearing cap off. Second I just rebuilt a 2.0 this evening and had difficulty with the cap so I drained the oil and off it came, not sure if it made a difference or I was just more determined. I am new to this also. Good Luck

Yes the nitrogen pressure is out of the shock, the valve core is removed and the oil is drained. So what did you use to get ahold of the cap with to turn it? If I crank any harder with the spanner wrench I have it just pulls out of the slot in the cap. Also the slot is starting to get marrred up. There are three slots spaced evenly apart. I am wondering if there is some tool I need that grabs two or maybe all three? Pat

You definently need something grabbing at least two holes. I think Mckenzies or Kartek sells a wrench for that. I made one that I use.

My 2.0 emulsion shock bearing cap is set up to be able to be taken off with a cresent wrench. Sounds like you need one of those special part #s we all love so much.

I rebuilt my 2.0 air shocks recently and I also tried to un screw the cap, but found out there no threads. It just presed in so you just bump it out using the slots.

Thanks willy I will try that this weekend if I have time to work on it. Pat
