 Look at you honda guys tripping all over your labia over the new YZF450 quad YAMAHA is putting out. What happened to honda is the greatest? Honda is an engineering company? Ride Red or kick blue, the choice is up to you? I swear I'd seen that last one brought up on this board a number of times. Yamaha is gonna keep doing what they've been doing for a long time and that is making kick ass machines for the real men to ride on. I have no doubt some of you haters are gonna jump on the band wagon and buy one but be carefull and expect an I told you so when you figure out the error of your ways. If anyone needs lessons, borrow TresHombre's blaster so we can work you in slow. biggrin.gif

Boy, THAT was a visual!

But not everyone should buy Yamaha. I like having the faster quad. :burn:

thats why i now ride a polaris predator 500 biggrin.gif
RRon3
I am not on that band wagon, I just love my 2 stroke. One day I guess I will have to go 4 stroke, but they are going to have to pry my 2 stroke from my cold, dead hands :dis:
Headinjury
I'm not even gonna go there... :bandit:
DUNE
Hey furball don't go getting your lace panty all bunched up, your voice might start changen. I never said that I would buy one of the new quads. As long as my bike is still running it will be my ride of chose. I couldn't agree more with RIDE RED on 3...

Honda DID make the best sport quads but then they stopped. If they would have kept up with the other manufacturers then we Honda guys would probably be laughing at these bikes. But since Honda is no longer a competitor in the sport quad market we Honda guys will have to look else where. Right now Yamaha and Polaris are the only real game in town with Suzuki and Kawasaki starting to gain some ground.

You say jumping ship, I think not. When your ship has been decommissioned and the only other one around is a second rate tug boat and you still want to go to sea you have a chose, stay at home or claim on board... tongue.gif tongue.gif tongue.gif
stonehenge
Thats funny Mr. Dune, if it gets real bad you Honda boys can come over and ride one of my three pimped out atc 70's. No problem. By the way I think some day they will finally bury the 250R, and maybe this quad will help accomplish it. Most of the world has already signed it off, but because of a few racers with 50,000 race bikes a couple of Honda folks still think that bike is the God quad? Well I will be at the funeral with a big smile on my face. Not to say it is a bad bike, its not, but please, give it a rest..............if not for us, think of the children!
LEAD DOG
ALLRIGHT SAY A GUY WAS LOOKING FOR A OLD MAN QUAD WHAT WOULD IT BE ??? I'VE BEEN DOWN THE $20,000.00 BANSHEE I'M OVER THAT BUT MY SON WANTS TO FOLLOW ME ON HIS LT 80
DUNE
Stonie, as long as there are after market parts out there and great engine builder to keep the 250R's alive they will never go away. It's people like you that will keep the old Honda's around, by the way how are your 3 HONDA ATC70's doing? tongue.gif

I just might take you up on that offer of trying one out, There ant nothing like a pimped out HONDA right. biggrin.gif
stonehenge
The fact your son is following you is a big reason, and whats your weight and skill level. I would suggest a nice big thumper, reliable and has all the bells and whistles, can move when it needs to, but doesn't load up when just putt'in with the kid.
LEAD DOG
oh the experiance is very good been dunning since 72 i think i kinda like the new zuki's 400's
stonehenge
If your a skinny light buck, the 400 is great, if you've met a few burgers in your day might want the poo 500, and if you've made love to a million or so doulbe doubles get the craptor or the sea-poo. And if you are the king of lazy and like a quad that weighs more than some buggies buy the kawa 700 anchor.
LEAD DOG
will yamaha put one of there thumpers in a quad ??? does anyone know.
Banshee_RMX_Rider

Yamaha alreaddy has and do.... raptor 660 and the new YFZ450

o and ben i couldnt of said it better.....YOU ALLL WILLLL BE jumpin your ship(SSR OLD BUCKET) to our new Fleet of Ships laugh.gif
LEAD DOG
I'VE RODE A RAPTOR :dozey: :dozey: :dozey: IT WASN'T VERY IMPRESSIVE TO SAY THE LEAST...
Fireballsocal
LeadDog: Don't let the slow lazy feel of the raptor fool you. The thumpers feel slow, especially when your getting off a banshee. They aren't though. Even my YZ400 felt slower than a 250 two stroke till we raced. Because of the lack of "hit", the illusion is that the quad or bike is slow. I couldn't lose KingGlamis on a raptor with my YZ400 and we were movin.
LEAD DOG
I WAS AFRAID YOU WERE GOING TO SAY THAT  DID I READ THAT YAMAHA PUT THE 450 MOTOR IN A QUAD??? I HAVN;T SEEN THAT.

that is so true. When I ride Manuel Raptor's bike it doesn't feel impressive to me. It not til I realize that he's right behind me or I'm right behind him and I can't catch up sometimes that I realize how fast that thing really is.

it's a velocitical illusion
LEAD DOG
OK ? ISN'T THE RAPTOR LIKE $8,000.00 COMPARED TO THE Z400 AT $6,000.00 DOLLAR FOR DOLLAR WHAT IS BETTER ?
SAL
Hey LEADDOG... if I'm not mistaken, the raptor is like 6500 whereas the z400 is about 5800... I think. I happen to like the Z a little better. The raptor has more power but supposedly the Z is better when it comes to everything else... this is according to atv mags and the like.... ultimately it's all on you what you choose.

I still say banshee is king smile.gif haha, I know, that's not what you're looking for...
LEAD DOG
I HAD A BANSHEE UGH $$$$$ MONEY PIT !  YEA IT WAS FUN BUT I WANT TO TAKE THE BIKE TO THE RIVER CASA TO RIDE ALSO SOMETHING A BIT DIFFERANT ... BECAUSE I'M NOT READY TO COMIT PUTTING MY BUGGY IN THE DIRT.
Manuel Raptor
laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif (honda) laugh.gif laugh.gif :lol
laugh.gif laugh.gif
Manuel Raptor
raptor = Fast ( when its running) biggrin.gif
Manuel Raptor
the only good honda is the 250R but I think I bouth a two stroke it would be a banshee
LEAD DOG
WELL THAT KINDA EXPLANES IT  :X: YOUR ON THE PAYROLL laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif
Manuel Raptor
^^ ???
LEAD DOG
JUST KIDDING   I NEED TO RIDE A COUPLE OF BIKES TO FIGURE OUT WHAT FEELS RIGHT I'M A LIGHTER RIDER SO I'M LEANING TWORDS THE Z 400 BECAUSE OF THE REPORTS. :burn:

Geez wait till a guy goes on vacation then start writen dirogatory stuff about him >:<

Can't borrow the blaster because guess what..... Its in the shop! less then 6 mo. old and engine needs rebuilding ..... Get this the dealer says it's cause we ride it at Glamis!!! I told him to define "ATV"

Then He says I've ran it to lean..... I said look at the spark plug Einstien it brown as can be even slightly black.....

Then He says I've probably let sand get by the filter..... Doh
I clean it every trip and reoil it. besides you would be able to see that on the piston...... besides it still under warrant you Ja$K A$$!!!

Yea buy a Yamaha !!!! Just make sure you get the extended warranty and have a loaner bike ( preferably a Honda ) on hand!

My [b]HONDA went 10 seasons before I rebuilt the top end..... 10 seasons!!

Like Manual Raptor said: "raptor = Fast ( when its running)"
(Still not as fast as a 500 Predator) I think the key phrase here is: "( when its running)"

If I just had to have reverse and didn't need to go fast I would buy the Z400 ...... If not I would and did buy the Polaris Predator awesome bike in every respect.... except reverse :bandit:
DUNE
I am getting my motor rebuilt now and it's not because of top end wear it's because the seals are wore out and leaking. 8 seasons on the top end and the piston and cylinder still looks good.

16 years in the dunes and the seals are finally gone now. Like to see Yamaha do that...Honda's are built to last.

Kinda hard to wear out the bore when the thing sits in shows and on trailers, looking pretty! laugh.gif Now C'mon Tom, you knew that was coming.

Tres, I've heard several people have the same problem as you. Most likely, it's the oil injection. It's a piece of crap. Yank it off, install a blockoff plate, and fill it with pre-mix. Sand gets in there somehow and plugs it off so no oil gets in to the motor. Make sure the dealer inspects the bottom end also. By the way, that new YZ450 quad is gonna drag your pred through the dirt backwards.

Yup, fireball hit it right on the head!

Lookit all the Honda gurls trippin' over their labia in this thread...

I had a 1993 YZ250 rode it for 5 years and never had to do a top-end, in fact sold it to a friend and he rode it for two more years, and then sold with the stock top-end.

I had a 1989 Banshee that went 8 years before needing a top end.

It's how you take care, not so much who makes it.
DUNE
Ben, I saw that one coming, but if you look at my thread you would see she ant no trailer queen. I wore out my gears with all the riding I've done through the years.

Derwud, since neither you or your friend opened up the top end of the YZ we will never know what condition it was in will we.
You said you went 8yrs with the banshee before you had to do a top end, well I went 8yrs on this motor and only opened it up because the seals were leaking and the bearings were worn. Allen at CT said the topend was in great shape after 8yrs of riding.

Socaldmax, if I were hangin with honda gurl with labia hangin that low they must be pretty old and that just goes to prove Hondas last forever. Hahahahah tongue.gif

I must admit that long ago I liked to speed shift without clutching so maybe that had something to do with it and the bearing were kinda warren out...Hey but as old as she is without a tare down ant to bad...
stonehenge
Lead, just so you know, you can pick up a 2004 Raptor for 6100. Thats not to bad and I'm sure you can find better deals around. And the Limited is going for a few hundred more.

It was just meant to say that if you take car of you bike, it will last, regradless of the bike. did I mention that on the Banshee the left cylinder was in excelent shape and was only bored .020" to match the right cylinder? Oh and no seals required replacement.

It sounds like you take care of your bike and you should be proud of it. Most don't and it shows.
DUNE
Darryl, I agree with you. Unless the manufacturer makes a peace of junk product there is no reason why with proper maintenance a quad shouldn't last for ever. I would have to say that all the major manufacturers make a quality product and it's people with the beat it into the ground or ride it like you stolid it mentality that are calling them P.O.S's

A jet mechanic friend of mine once told me a long time ago that if we kept up our cars like they keep up there aircraft our cars should last 100 years or more and after seeing how they maintain the jet's I would have to agree.
WetWork999
Dallas said she is doing a Magazine shoot on the new YFZ450... Does anyone know for what magazine??? I would love to see the article.
