i have an 01 raptor.if i put a pipe on should i still drop down a tooth for hill climbing?its stock now.any tips for hill climbing power in general?

what you need to do is, disconnect the raptor from the pipe, connect a banshee to it, then get another pipe... you'll be amazed at the results biggrin.gif

Droping a tooth on the sprocket will help climbing the hills. I have an 03 and had to do that as well. Now I can run around in 3rd & 4th. As for more horsepower, I havent done the pipe yet. I removed the spark arrester which had alot of restriction on the stock pipe. Not as much as an improvement but it not as loud either. Replacing the stock air cleaner with a K&N seemed to make a big difference. The air flow on the raptor is really restricted. Good luck.

Yeah go ahead and drop it by one tooth to see how you like it. But if you put a pipe on it then go the extra distance and get a K&N air filter for it also, what good is exhaling fast if you can't inhale just as fast. See what I'm getting at, you have a pipe that alows the exhaust to move faster but your stock air cleaner is still restricting the air flow.

Also remember that for every tooth you remove from the front sprocket it's like removing 3 teeth from the rear. :burn:

I think it's like adding three to the rear???

by the way... Manuel Raptor and I always go to comp and race up the hill and we're pretty much neck and neck... He beats me sometimes and I can get him sometimes... my banshee is piped with fmf's and has a k&n filter... his has a ct pipe on it... and I weigh like 150 pounds more than him

oh yeah... I'd go ahead and drop one tooth in the front. I haven't had the chance to get around to do it on mine. Chummin has dropped one on his Z400 and he swears by it.

I dropped one off the front and added 2 to the back.. It dunes with ease in 3rd.. For the CRAPtor, you should only have to drop one in the front..

If your gonna do a pipe, you might as well go air and jet also like Dune said..

A word of CAUTION though.. The front end will not stay down when you do this so be carefull.

My bike does nothing but wheelies in 1st and 2nd and even in 3rd at times.. Not that its fast, its in the gearing..
AND HEY DUNE.. One off the front is like ADDING 3-4 in the back..
Sal you're right I had it backwards.
