Just for curiostity sake (i.e. it's summer and the board is slow biggrin.gif ), how many of you are loyal to one brand of ATV? Or maybe just two brands? In other words, if you are going to buy a quad, will you only buy from your favorite manufacturer? Or, do you not care, and will buy the quad you think is best regardless of who makes it? If Kia came out with a quad and it was the fastest and best handling, would you buy a Kia quad? (LMAO... wouldn't EVERYONE on another quad HATE getting smoked by a Kia?!?)

When I had my Fourtrax 250R I was a big Honda guy and hated the rest of the mfgs. These days I could care less, I judge a quad first by performance and second by looks. Of course... I doubt I would buy a quad made in France. biggrin.gif

I feel exactly the way you do. My first 2 ATCs were Honda, but only because they were the best in the early 80's. Performance (for my style of riding) and quality is all I'm after and I'm not concerned with the name.

I feel the same way about everything else, too. I buy the best value I can afford and not I'm into the name.

I would buy another bike other than Yamaha if there was a big enough difference in performance but because Yamaha has consistantly built what I have been looking for (I.E. the best bike when I bought my banshee and my YZ400), if the two bikes were comparable, I would stick with Yamaha. The other three Japanese manufacturers make great machines and the Germans are fast on their heels but because Yamaha builds the bikes that I want, I stick by them.

Between the CR250 and YZ250, the difference for my skill leval is so small that even though the honda is a few pounds lighter, I would never know the difference. Therefore, I would stick with the YZ. Now if the CR was twenty pounds lighter and produced 7 more horsepower over a broader powerband, I might go with Red.

IN 21 YEARS OF RIDING ON AND OFF ROAD. I STAY WITH YAMAHA. OH I'VE STRAYED AND HAVE OWNED THREE HONDAS. TWO STREET BIKES AND A CR250. BUT I KEEP GOING BACK TO THE BEST BIKE IN MY OPINION AND THATS A YAMAHA! ON AND OFF ROAD.

Thank God I love 3 wheelers, because I know Honda made the best one of those biggrin.gif. I am a 2 stroke guy still, so the new quads do not interest me much . With that said, I would still go with a 86'-89' fourtrax if I bought a quad. I know that they are 14-17 years old, but is sill the best 2 stroke quad ever built. The banshee is basically 16 years old too, since Yamaha has done nothing to them since the first year (besides the J-arms and a few other minor changes).

That being said, I am very disappointed in Honda. Why did they even stop building the 250R fourtrax? Why won't they step up like the other manufacturers

Can you imagine the hype and craziness if Honda re-released the '88 all red 250R? Especially if it had improvements... OH DAMN! It will never happen, but I can dream. Of course, a CR500 powered quad would be even better... but now I'm really dreaming... Honda has lost it.

Back in the 80's.. I had always had Honda 3-wheelers and so did the group I rode with. They all bought the 250R, I bought the Yahmaha Tri-Z 250. Even when I kept up or led them while duning, or smoked 'em on Comp, or out wheelie'd them, they gave me crap. I wish I had never sold that 3-wheeler. And no, I never bought a 250R either.

At my crib, we got 3 Honda's and 2 Suzuki's. I personally can't stand the Suzuki's, they were the crappiest designed quad built. The Honda's, I love them. the 2 4-stroke Honda's always run and mine runs most the time. Like Ride Red I'm a 2-stroke man. I'd buy another Honda 250r, even if there outdated, over any new 4-stroke on the market. Plus, Yamaha's suck, why would you think of buying one!

I myself am a two stroke fan. I will buy the best bike that I can afford and it doesn't have to be a Honda. If Yamaha or any other manufacture made a great bike an I was in the market for something new then I would buy it. I am only a Honda person because that is who made my 250R and to date I haven't seen anything out there worth trading up for. The four strokes just seem to sluggish and are missing that snap I get from my two stroke. And a Banshee is just to nose heavy and the geometry and balance is just not as good as the fourtrax.

Back in the 90's I heard that the two strokes were going to have to meat a emission control standard. And it looked like Honda was going to step up to the plate with a new cleaner burning 250 two stroke motor and I even caught a glimpse of it. But then I heard that Honda shelved it because it was to costly. Funny how Yamaha never had to switch to a cleaner burning motor, so why didn't Honda just keep making the 89 version of the fourtrax.

That Fourtrax above is what Honda should be selling right now but with a counterbalanced 500R motor in it... What a bunch of dumasses they are. They have the product, the enginering's been done, they have the jig's and molds to make the thing. They have and own everything to make this bike at little or no cost to them but to build it and they choose not to. WHY... >:< >:< >:<

i know everyone that sees the name thinks im yamaha all the way, but i love honda just as much. im just proud of what i own. i happen to own a yamaha and im gonna be lookin to add another quad to my pile in a few months if money flow is correct. now if i happen to purchase a honda of some sort id be happy to change my name. but since then ill stay with yamaha. when i went to buy my banshee i told my self i want to get something brand new off the lot and not used. and i wanted a two stroke. i wasnt too thrilled one a dirtbike so i was lookin at the banshee and i am happy with the power and performance of it. but i look for the performance of the bike before the name. well actually its the price tag and performance.

how you treat your bike is how reliable your bike is.

thats my opinion.

Why limit yourself to one brand when another could be better!!!!

im partial to suzuki tongue.gif

I think all manufactures have there ups and downs with different bikes. As for me i think most people are looking for the best deal and performance out of a bike, not just a name. I have to Yamaha's now but if KIA came out with an assume quad, i would buy it.

But i would have to agree, if france did, i don't think they would have much of a market in the USA!!!!!!!
Banshee_RMX_Rider

Absolutely if another manufacturer made a better bike I would buy it!!!
Thats why I ride a [b]HONDA
Thats in the 2 wheel catagory......

And I 've proven that statement (if another manufacturer made a better bike I would buy it!!!) by buying The Polaris Predator that many viewed as just a step up from a Kia. Even if it wasn't the best production bike sold this year ( and it was) It's the only Quad made right here in the USA with mostly American parts ( well all except the engine)

As far as that POS blaster goes ...... It's been at the dealers shop more time than its been in my garage.

Bottom Line is you should do your research and pick the bike that best fits your needs...... But if that ends up being a Blue bike than obviously your needs aren't going fast through the dunes!! :dis: :ninja: :grenade: biggrin.gif
Kevin
always been loyal to honda, but when they failed to deliver a quad as powerfull and capapble as the predator 500, i dropped them off on the next block like a used ho. if i were to buy another one, it would have to be something so bad ass that i couldnt resist buying one.
CHEFF
Honda makes the best, my friend owns a Yamaha dealership, I ride Yamaha. Its the price, and loyalty to friends. Peace
ZukiFreak
I wouldnt say honda makes the best, they make the most reliable and easiest to use. Yami make really fast stuff with some strange inovations and Suzi/Kawi, follow conservatively honda/yami... Picking up the scraps...
Toy Collector
Honda brainwashed me early. I started on a Blue 1983 Honda ATC 70 in 1983. I then got a 1986 70 Fourtrax, sold that, got my '84 200x, then got the 85 250R. That is by far my favorite bike. It still looks brand new. Also, in between all of these, I messed around on my '79 Honda 110.
My next investments will include a 1986 350x and a 1988 Red 250R (even though I think quads are for girls)

It's weird cause I also have a 1993 Integra, a 1989 4 Runner and a 1954 Volkswagen... and I'm saving for a Chevy Duramax. Absolutely no loyalty when it comes to vehicles.

I still have my 83 250r ,it even has the factory nubs on the tires , the bike has never seen anything but sand biggrin.gif but if you want to go fast go YAMAHA... :!:
A-Dare
People who are so brand specific crack me up.
I have friends who back and forth about honda/yamaha ford/chevy/dodge. When it comes down to it,
I always thought that I was open minded,
but a friend put it into perspective for me.
He said " for you, it's always been about haulin ass."
If honda, ride honda, but if somebody is building
a faster bike, that's what'd own. So when I stepped
for 3 to 4 wheels, I bought a banshee, then fully ported it.
Yeah the banshee doesn't have the suspension that the
250r does, but when it came to racing......c-ya!
