I heard from DIRT WHEELS MAG that the 49,000 acre closure is open to OHV use! http://www.dirtwheelsmag.com/detail.asp?id=203

Is this true??

They oversimplified the whole situation on that one.

The area is open but with a stipulation, you can't go in without a permit. Only 75 permits are going to be issued at any one time. You can have up to 7 people on one permit. You must also take and pass a test to get the permit.

The reservation system is going to be tried out at Roadrunner. I wouldn't trust the statement to expect more conveniences. The government is great at taking our money, not very good at spending it wisely.

Dirtwheels, while I am sure means no malice sure doesn't do us any good when they write an article that comes off so half cocked and oversimplified.

We are awaiting a record of decision on the new management plan, which will help make it more official.

But I gotta say, we already know the CBD has filed one lawsuit to stop the closures from being lifted and I'm sure they have another poised for when the record of decision is publicized.

As Jeff said, even if all the Gods are smiling on us, all the stars line up and the planets are spinning in our favor, this new management plan includes an "Adaptive Management Area" where riders will be required to take a course in conservation and carry a permit to ride in the large temporary closure. There's a lot more to it than that.

If possible, try to attend one of the upcoming meetings so we can all talk about what to expect and what can be done.

Those meeting can be very informative.
