Some people thought that a .120 DOM cage was overkill for a rhino... after 2 side over barrel rolls I'm here to tell you it's not pirate.gif

Myself, the wife, and both kids were in the Rhino when it happened... not a bump, scratch or bruise yay.gif ...folks behind us said the the boys were in the back and actually had their hands up like they were on a rollercoaster laughing.gif

Damage = 2 broken buggy whips and a tweaked whip tab. The aluminum roof and 1 of the doors are mildly tweaked... just need to remove them and bend 1 or 2 of the fastener tabs a bit thumb.gif ...the lightbar and lights didn't even bend or break. Other than that, no cracks, bends, or breaks or scratches icon_biggrin.gif

I kept both hands on the wheel and just kinda went with the flow... the seat and belts did their job and kept me and the family in place! I was VERY happy that we had the full doors added... I bet I would have put my leg out if we didn't have them.

We were headed up a hill and peeling to the left at the top... I knew a few feet from the top that we wouldn't make it so I was going to pull left and head back down and try again... WRONG! I had enough power and momentum to turn left but not enough to turn back down the hill... we rolled to the left and down the hill a full two times and landed back on the tires shocker.gif ...hindsight, I should have stopped and backed down the hill.

After we stopped we hopped out to make sure everyone was ok... and we were! Everyone was good... no bumps, bruises, scratches... nada... zip... zilch.

THANK YOU Wired For Sound (Adam, Brian, Ryan, and the rest of the crew... xxx rhinosports ph34r.gif ) for making a bitchen cage thumb.gif Everything did exactly what it was supposed to do... we were all a bit nervous of the possibility of a rollover with this thing but after rolling it we now have full confidence in the cage and equipment used.

FYI, We were runing the stock aluminum SE wheels/tires with 2.5" spacers... a few more inches wider and I don't think it would have happened... also, a few more HPs and I would have had enough power to get all the way around...

I'll DL the pics and get'm in here tonight... just wanted to say THANKS and NICE WORK to the Wired For Sound crew, my family appreciates your craftsmanship thumb.gif

Sand EVERYWHERE...

Here's the damage... 2 broken whips icon_sad.gif ...and you can see the tweaked whip tab on the right
[attachmentid=113824]

Eric assessing the damage...
[attachmentid=113826]

If you look closely at the roof line near the middle of the passenger side you can see a "wrinkle" in the roof on the edge... the sand pushed on the roof and when it bowed in it stressed the dzus fastener tabs... should be a siple fix!
[attachmentid=113827]

Change the whip and it was time to go cool off in the shade...
[attachmentid=113828]

...and later ...some trick-or-treating

Oh, and welcome back to the 1960's, when you were often lucky to make it to the top of a hill.

No joke, Bob! I'm a firm believer that duning a rhino WILL make you a better duner though... it forces you to 1) pick a good line; or 2) pay for not picking a good line laughing.gif You simply do not have the power to weight ration to get yourself out of trouble or cover up mistakes.

Bohica, yea... the pressure is off... now you can take that thing out of camp! laughl.gif

Just curious, was anyone wearing a helmet? I took my new Rhino out to the dez this weekend. I have been debating whether to make myself and the kids where our helmets. This weekend, we did not.

No, we were not wearing helmets.

We do have headrests in the rear seat as well as the front seats (PRP) ...the boys (3 and 4 years old) aren't even big enough to have their heads touch the headrest yet bag.gif

The boys chose on their own to wear helmets in the rhino on the first trip of the season... they didn't like it a lot though because they couldn't put their head back dunno.gif

Montana Girl
We bought helmets for the kids in our Rhino. First time out with them they were screamin and crying that their heads and necks hurt. I think there was too much weight on their head. Took helmets off and they love it.

Amy you should try skateboard or bicycle helmets. Lighter and better on the neck. Anything is better than nothing.

amen to that^^
stoked
Yeah, and teach the people in your back seat how to buckle up, Amy...

who said that? hahah...

Brian, Kristy, it was nice to meet you Saturday night - glad everything turned out cool with the rhino, but more importantly that you were all able to come to the 'pound to party - without any scratches!!

So glad all are OK. Glad everyone has 10 fingers and 10 toes and smiles on their faces.

Now for a little story... My boss was gone all last week because her son, who is in his early 20's rolled his Rhino in the desert near Phoenix a week ago Last Sunday. One of his arms (the one that he used to reach up to hold onto the roll bar) is seroiusly jacked up. He is still in the hospital. The bones in the injured arm basically turned to Jello. His radius and ulna were replaced with metal bars as was the bone from the elbow to the shoulder(I forgot the name of that bone!). The elbow joint itself is still questionable, if they are going to replace it or not. He has had 5 surgeries, the latest to remove dead tissue and to do a skin graft. He is a fellow duner, he and his family go to Ocotillo Wells. Say a prayer for him, even though he was stupid, because he has a mother who loves him dearly.

If that cage was lighter you would have made the hill oto.gif glad everyone is ok

I agree! pirate.gif

I was kinda shocked... right after the roll we hit Olds for a couple minutes, we were not far from it when it happened... when we left the hill she said "I want to drive" igor.gif ...was happy that she wasn't all freaked and scared of it.

We lost an estimated 1.5 cups of ice water out of the cooler... and if that wasn't enough we had a casualty icon_cry.gif ...1 Ice Cold Delicious Beverage didn't survive the roll ...we poured out what little was left of him and had a moment of silence ph34r.gif
