Voice: Daniel Patterson misleading with dunes propaganda again

Thursday, June 19, 2003 2:49 PM PDT

While reading Mr. Patterson's response to the editorial "Ramping up" titled "Editorial not fair to conservationists" I was struck by the total lack of honesty. While certainly everyone is entitled to their opinion, to simply throw facts out of the window in order to promote your own, biased opinion is pure propaganda.

Mr. Patterson mentions the "balanced 50/50 management on their public lands at the dunes." As you can see by this map ... http://www.americansandassociation.org/mya...um47/Closed.jpg the closures are FAR from 50/50. ... Can you even find the OPEN areas in there?

Mr. Patterson also states that "visitation dramatically increased at the dunes during the last two and a half years of balanced dunes management."

Where did Mr. Patterson get his numbers from? I was at the Imperial Sand Dudes Recreation Area those last two years. Visitation was down, dramatically.

It should also be noted that the current closures, called the adaptive management area, in the RAMP were to be TEMPORARY. It is one thing for the off-road community to sit back and "wait and see" while these closures are temporary. It would be something else entirely if these closures are made permanent.

And, as usual, Mr. Patterson cannot write a letter without calling the off-road community's lawsuits "frivolous" and "without merit" and then a couple of paragraphs later threaten the Bureau of Land Management with his own lawsuit.

As citizens we need to stand up to the people spreading this propaganda and take the time to learn the facts.

That kicked arse. biggrin.gif Now we need some ammo against Paul Spitler.

Don't know how I missed it, VOR...I pulled the Spitler piece right above it and never went back.

Wow, I didn't really expect them to publish that one!
It's awesome that they printed the URL to the closure map!

Yeah, keeping the cussing out was very difficult!

Hey, you guys have seen me get on a rant before... wouldn't it be great if I was able to "get on a rant" with DP???

I hope he responds... this could get UGLY!!! biggrin.gif

Patterson is a little d*ckhead. Last year, when Radrat was battling it out with another reader on those pages, there was an online chat session after Sailaway appeared on a radio show. Patterson was on, and was trying to make fun of Radrat because he was getting slammed in the paper. He's obviously not committed to taking the high road. Weenie. :x

I'd love to see that. He's pretty eager to debate on paper, but he gets puny when he's asked to do it live via radio or TV. Not only that, but he pressures who ever else might actually be willing to participate in a debate, feeding them his usual misdirected rhetoric until they back out.

I know this personally.

Quite the little bully on paper, but it's a whole different story when he's asked to actually make a show of it.

Obviously, he knows his canned responses won't hold water and he's got nothing else to go on.

Maybe if we fed him the questions ahead of time and allowed cliff notes?

I'll admit that I'm a little bit like that myself. I have trouble speaking live or even in chat. I tend to get a bit flustered and my emotions tend to take over. I am much better in print.

I'm sure that if he gave it some thought he would chew me up... But I'd like the chance!

It's a bummer that the PERIOD at the end of the url to the picture causes the link to not work... sad.gif

Brian, click on that link... is that the map you forwarded to them?

Vicki
The Pastor
Yeah, Actually, I didn't forward the map... I just entered the URL in my editorial. I think THEY added the period, I may have done it on accident.

I am just suprised that they printed an editorial with a link to a map in it.
That map is so visual.. It really puts things into perspective. I'm glad that it's out there for the public to see.
SailAway
It's very surprising actually... several people have tried to submit similar maps and they wouldn't do it. Good job Brian!

Banshee Bob created a real purdy version for DUNERS and the ASA...
