Bugsy
So I'm ripping around on my 82 stocker this weekend in the washes.

and I cant get the thing into 3rd... I mean it will shift fine but the little guy doesn't have enough power to keep it moving in 3rd.

Is this normal or is my 70 a weak little biatch.

I am thinking about an aftermarket filter like this:

Am I going to have to re jet, if so can I get some recommendations on where to start?
Esco
your to heavy moofer, just doing an airfilter change wont make a big deal of a difference but might as well start with the less $$ mods

130 is the main
22.5 is the idle

I know im a heavy guy, I just want to make sure its not effed up. I will pull me fine on the road but it doen't have the get up and go for the sand...

should I be able to get through all of the gears in the washes or does it sound like somthing is robbing power?
Esco
neither did ours when they were stock in the sand.

hard pack they did okay but still fell flat a little.

I thinks its just the way it is bro
Bugsy
damn... ok i will go with the filter.. any other quick power mods?
Esco
cam

they are only about $30 will go good with the filter change

Bugsy

Crusty
What thet said.....Mine is a dog in 3rd.

But i'm collecting cans to put that 107cc kit from DrATV....15.gif
Bugsy
So what kind of a power increase can I expect form say that cam and the airfilter?
Bugsy
Wheres tres?
PWR MAD
You might want to check the compression. I out weigh all you guys put together and my stock 70 hauls me through the washes into 4th if I get a run at it.

The one I'm building for my wife was just like what Bugsy is descibing and I had to do a top end on it, now it runs great.
Bugsy
hmmm... I will have to get a compression tester... what should it be?
PWR MAD
Well, according to the manual, 175 plus or minus 22 PSI

Esco, are we talking a larger carb or 130 in a stock carb?? That's huge.
Stock is 58 main & 38 idle. I tried a 19mm carb with a 78 main & 38 idle & couldn't dial it in. It kept bogging at the top end of each gear.

What jets work well with the uni and/or a new cam?

I'm running a 70 main and 40 pilot with a 82cc kit, stock carb and a K&N filter. I weigh 200lbs and it hauls me in 4th as long as it's not very steep grade.

got this straight from the dr

**************************
MIKUNI MAIN JETS FOR VM20_VM22_TM24 CARB'STHESE ARE SOLD EACH AND WILL NOT FIT THE STOCK HONDA CARBS. THEY ARE FOR THE 20MM AND 22MM MIKUNI CARB'S WE SELL AS A REPLACEMENT CARB. THE SIZE OF JET WILL VARY WITH THE CONDITION, SIZE AND PERFORMANCE ADDITIONS TO THE ENGINE. MOST STOCK 70'S WILL BE AROUND A 130 AND STOCK 90'S AROUND 140. THE CARB COMES FROM THE FACTORY WITH AN 180 MAIN JET SO MOST OF THE TIME YOU WILL NEED A SMALLER JET. ALSO WE HAVE FOUND THAT THE 22.5 IDLE JET WILL WORK IN 90% OF THE APPLICATIONS.

I think what Jack meant that a normal 70 with the 20-22mm "upgraded" carb would be 130

stock 70's are as lifestyle said 58

I'd start be checking compression, Timing can rob power too,
Bugsy
Anyone done anything to the stock exhaust to get a little more HP out of these things without making it sound like an aeroplane?
Mr.DUNE
Their's really nothing you can do to a stock exhaust to get more power out of it except gutting the thing but then it get's real loud...
Bugsy
i tried it gutted and man it is LOUD I will stick with the stock exhaust.
