Does anybody have any good advice as to what engine I should use to replace the stock one in my LT 250? It took a dump and I am afraid that it is just too old to get parts for.

I would love to be able to buy a new quad, but no $$$ for it.

I am a novice rider. I like to dune, but ocasionally like to pull a long hill. I want some thing that I can take to the sand and ride all week-end with out worrying that it is going to leave me stranded.

My fabrication skills are good. I just don't know which motor would be best, and what the pros and cons are of all the options.

I am open to any ideas, and would like to hear your opinions as to what would really kick a _ _ , but I would like to do this and still be able to feed my wife and pay the bills.

Any thoughts would be great, Thanks!!

YOU CAN STILL GET ALL THE PARTS YOU NEED NO PROBLEM. JUST REBUILD YOURS, AND HAVE IT PORTED AND POLISHED

What year?? I'm pretty sure you can still get parts for just about any year LT. Try my friend here in Oregon. (503)390-0094 Ask for Brent.

if you rebuild it watch it and make sure they dont mess with the tranny cuz i bought a project LT and the motor was shot. i had to have it fully rebuilt from the ground up motor wise. some gears are not made anymore so if they need replacing them watch it. i was told they couldnt find any tranny gears far as replacing them. i wanted to go back to a stock LT when doing it. they might have aftermarket. im not sure. mine was an 85 the first years of it. if you need more info the cycle shop i had it done at was fare and honest. let me know

Well, I know that the crank is going to have some issues, and I don't know about the gear box. I am just afraid that the price of building back to the technology of 1986 is going to be just as expensive as if not more, and I want have the same fun factor.

So, just for the fun of it, what do you think would be a good choice of motor?

the guy i originally bought the bike from twisted the crank inside the casing. i ahd it completely stripped and rebuilt back to stock for almost $1000 or so. it was like within $100 give or take a few. the thing ran solid and i never had problems. it all depend on what type of riding you plan to do with what motor you go with. im a bigger and agressive rider so i would go with the older yz490 motor. its light weight and alot of power. but im not sure what you should go with. it all depends on you. put some form of high performance thumper in it. but its all up to you.
