My wifes 450 is two trips old and the first trip out, on the first ride, about 5 minutes into the ride she was going along in I think 3 gear and all of a sudden the quad just completely shut off. It started right back up but it was wierd that it would just shut down. The rest of that weekend, it never happened again. Then over Thanksgiving weekend, the first ride we went on about 5-7 minutes into the ride, she was going along in 2nd or 3rd gear and letting off the gas and it happened again. The quad just completely died. I check all the visible wires looking for loose connections but I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. The rest of the weekend, it was fine. Has anyone experienced any sort of problem like this? Any idea what it could be?

What I've seen causing this problem in the past:
Bad kill switch button
Gummed up float bowl
Dirty fuel line
Loose battery connection(s)
Gas on reserve instead of run, or not fully on run.
But the most common reason:
The choke isn't fully pushed back in.

Hope this helps.

Yea, that definitely helps. I know it isn't the battery lines, I checked them and they were tight. The gas was definitely on. I don't think it could be the choke because when it died last weekend she started it back up without touching the choke and continued riding without a problem. The carburetor is a definite possiblitly but why would it die once and then be fine the rest of the weekend? I will check the fuel line when I get home. Thanks for the input.

My buddy had this problem once before. His died more often though but, his was the fuel cap vent hose. It was plugged. Check that for a kink or anything in the hose blocking the air way.

Make sure you warm the bike up before you leave camp. Mine has a helluva time moving 5 feet if it isn't warmed up all the way.

Netural Switch button on the clutch lever.

Everything mentioned above is great info. to add, This may be way off base, but is she used to riding a 2 stroke? Cause going to a 4-stroke, i have seen people stall the hell out of the 4-strokes due to the compression bike. Just got to ride it a touch different.

How long does she warm it up for? That seems like the most likely answer.

I feel stupid. Neutral switch on the clutch lever? What is that?

I always warm the bike out for her real good while she's in the trailer "preparing" herself. She is coming off of a Banshee but she knows how to ride. I don't think she's stalling it while in the middle of a ride.

The switch is to keep you from starting the quad in gear. It has a plug with two wires that goes into the clutch pull housing on the handle bars. Sometimes they will kill the bike while you are riding. Then you pull the clutch and restart and the problem goes away for a while.

The sounds very possible. I'll look into that. Anything specific I should be looking for? Loose wires?

Is there a parking brake interlock? I know the Raptor has one, don't know if these do or not.

If it's stock (so I've heard) they are so choked up from the factory that they they need to be re-jetted out of the box just to run properly.

The quad has a HMF full exhaust and a k&N intake with the lid off. It was then taken to the local shop to be properly jetted. It did die on deceleration once but it also died the other time while on the gas.

The switch can just be bad. You can disconnect the switch for checking. The quad will start on gear so be careful while the switch is disconnected.
