Currently im running some 5" lights on my Z and i was just thinking about putting some bigger 70 or 100 watt lights on my bike, but i know the stock stater cant handle tha. My lights not are wired into the wires for the stock lights, high beam to be exact.
What if i wired the lights straight off the battery? Would this be bad?

Make sure to fuse it.
It the way I've always done it, and it's worked fine for me.

Fuse, relay, and a spare battery for when it goes dead. And it WILL go dead. those lights will suck up the power faster than the stator can recharge it. Quite screwing around and get the HID's

Maybe i could wire one off the stock harness and one off the battery. But would that put too much of a load onto the stator still?

It doesn't matter where you plug into the system, it's still gonna be about 90 watts max. I did an HID conversion to my bro-in-law's stock headlights and you wouldn't believe the visibility. For a stock reflector the Z400 is one of the best, convert to HID first, then build up the stator and go for more lights. Also one thing to remember, an aftermarket flywheel may put out even more power than a stocker because some have more magnets, and since the flywheel has to come off anyway why not change it out while it's all apart. Flywheels from Trail Tech are $140.00 and they claim 30-50% more output. I'm guessing that the lights you have on your bike are either 35 watt or 55 watt. If they're 55 watt then you're already maxed out as far as the stator is concerned. If they're 35 watt you can't can't add much more. And make sure you are running an LED tailight and an LED whip light, those two can really draw some juice. (stock 1157 tail=5 watts running, 21 watts when you step on the brake plus a 21 watt standard 1156 bulb in the whip) Replacing those two with LED's chops it down to about 2 watts.

i agree get the HID's they work very good and dont use much power. i have the trail tech HID's and they work very good heres a pic of them

I dont plan on crashing or anything, but im just too nervous that ill roll my bike on the smallest hill or stupidest thing and brake the lights. Thats why i've been using the cheap 5" lights from fibertech. I take them off during the day and put them on at night. HID's would be pretty cool.
Maybe if i bought one o fthe procomp 100 watt lights and built a frame it would be alright, kind of like the trailtech baha lights. hmm

the ones i have you could really take them off in the day if you wanted to theres just a nut i=on the bottom and you could but connectors on the wire instead of permenantly connecting them
