I know 2 guys that stuffed CR500s into R chassis. They really liked them for about 1/2 hour. Then their hands went numb from the vibration.
I know another guy that stuffed a Zuki 500 into an R chassis and really likes it, but I haven't seen him in a couple years as he moved to Nebraska(?).
Anyway, the CR500 is really hard on frames; it vibrates so much it will crack it all over.

see that why i mainly went to yamaha. a banshee has enough power to get my fat butt up the hills and i didnt have to custom build it. it may not be the best all around performance bike but its power is enough for me.

Its just a thought though... i mean if you could some how use dampining materials say like urathene (sp) bushings on the motormounts to help dampen the vibration like a car motor that would cut down on quite a bit of vibration... just some food for thought...

My Question???? Where can I order some new whips with the rubber sleaves on them? Mine has taken a turn for the worse. Peace

I have a good friend in Texas that did everything he could to stop the vibrations; rubber mounts everywhere including the handlebars, heavy thick grips, etc. Still too much for him. He is 6'2" and about 200lbs, young and strong. He liked the power, though, but he has gone a different direction now; he tried a Polaris 400 cylinder on his 250R bottom-end, bored it to 411cc and ran it on alcohol. Didn't like that either. Wouldn't stay together very long. I think he's building a ESR 370 stroker. ...
Still, the 250R/400EX chassis aren't made to take the vibration of the 500 and won't last unless you gusset the hell outa them.

How about a CR500 jug atop a fourtrax bottom end. Bingo, counterbalanced 500. Will make all other big-bore combos look silly. Plus, the broad torque curve of a 500. Cant really go wrong.

MY BROTHER AND I STUFFED A YZ 490 INTO A BLASTER. TALK ABOUT VIBRATION  . WE FINALLY WORKED OUT ALL THE BUGS AND SOME HOW SMOOTHED OUT THE VIBRATION PROBLEM. THAT THING WAS SICK.

Shane-O would the crank hold up... thats where i would be thinkin it would be lackin some strength... But that would be sweet if it would work... maybe ill find a couple junkers and give it a whirl... Prolly gonna need the carb off the 500 also... unless they are the same and just jetted diffrent..

my dad and I built a cr500 trx. Like everyone else has said there really isn't much you can do about vibration. We had it mounted in rubber at every mount along with the handlebars filled with gun shot. Nothing worked but the power was Awesome. but we took it out.

I know a kid here in the valley who is finishing up a 500trx im gonna ride it and see how bad it does... if its crappy ill just toss the idea but i still think some extended a-arms to sit like the predator and a extended swing arm on a 400ex frame with the power of the cr500 would be nice... I wonder if anyone has ever tried putting a 500 jug ontop of a 250 bottom end... :?:
I wonder if anyone has ever tried putting a 500 jug ontop of a 250 bottom end... :?:
Nick, this is the exact set-up I was talking about in my post above. The guy is a friend of mine and I have seen the thing run with my own two eyes. There is even a vid clip of it on the website. It's in the "independent review" link. Everything holds up fine. Even on alcohol. The only problem he has had it getting enough fuel to it. Click on the link I posted with it or give him a call and see for yourself.
