HI guys!

I need some advice. Im looking to buy my first toy. Im not planning on buying something brand new...looking for something that would probably be a couple thousand. I am a pretty basic rider, I have ridden I used to ride my exboyfriends Z400, and I can handle my own, but not quite ready to run with the big boys yet. looking for something that will get me from the washes to olds and back and be able to keep up with everyone else, not nessesarily be the leader..Yet at least. What would be a good Quad for me???

Thanks !
SHOCKER
Theres alot of quads that you could find in the cycle trader for under 4000. It depends if you want a 4-stroke or a 2-stroke. It would be best to get a 4-stroke, like a 400EX or a 350 warrior.

Yamaha Warrior or Blaster. I rode with a guy with a Warrior. He kept up really good. I knopw a Blaster can keep up OK. Either should only be around $2,000.

ok dont know much about that either...I know the difference is one has oil in the gas or something like that...which is better ? Remember, Im a single girl, who is just learning how to work on her own Sheet. want something that is pretty reliable that will do well..not nessisarily win a race.

Warrior, being a 4 stroke, regular gas, is one thing less to worry about. Most you will find for sale are stock, which would mean less to worry about.

Get a Cannondale:) Those things can be found for pretty cheap if ya know where to look. You can grow into the bike

ok next question...How hard is a dirtbike to ride? Ive never riden one and i was consdiering a dirt bike instead of a quad.[/code]
Bansh88
A lot of my friends have them. If you want to ride dunes, I would forget about it. They have to ride pretty fast to stay afloat.

I want to be able to ride back in the dunes also...I heard its alot harder on the body in less your in real good shape to ride a bike then a quad..thats the only thing im worried about...ill be a 2 wheeler, and not like it...I really want to drive a rail before because thats what i eventually want, but I allready know those are a money pit. Im not set yet for that.

Get yourself a decent Warrior or Blaster. Cheap, reliable and quick enough for what ride you want. You will go out a lot and maybe score some rail time. If the bike doesn't suit you, you are stuck at home with an expesive coat hanger.

That is pretty much what I figure...which is why im sticking with what I know im good at riding...Thank you for your advice I really appreciate it...I had no idea what to even start to look at...any other imput is appreciated smile.gif

Cycle Trader, Cycle Trader, Cycle Trader. Buy the Cycle Trader every friday it always has alot of good deals.
Turbo Diesel
I would definitely get a four stroke in your situation. Very easy maintenance - Oil change every couple of trips amd a new plug once per season.

Quads of all makes hold their value pretty well if you get a good deal on a used one. So you're not really losing the money - you're just setting it aside for later. There will always be a buyer for it, especially at the beginning of the season

I really appreciate everyones input...you guys are giving me things I wouldnt of thought of otherwise

Angie, if I were you I would buy a 400ex. Look in the trader, there should be a lot of them for sale. The warrior is a little heavy for my tastes, but you can pick one up pretty cheap.

If you have the money, get the 400ex...
Rubberneck
I would check the cycletrader everyday and buy it every friday. The online cycle trader has new updates daily. Then if you buy the magazine every friday you can look at the ones that aren't online. Hope this helps. I use the website for window shopping all the time.

Go for a used 400ex with a set of paddles and a pipe that sould be good for what you want to do.
Ever thought of a 250ex or the new kfx250?
You said you have ridden the Z 400 before so mabey thoes 2 would be out of the question. If you have been on a Z400 then you should stick with that?

I would but the problem is i dont have th credit to get approved for a new bike, and no one is willing to cosign for me...unless your volenteering smile.gif

Angie, I don't know how much you can afford but for a good used 400ex up here in O.C. they go for around 3700. If you can come up with that then you should have no problem getting a nice quad...

Also look in Buy/Sell on the board sometimes you can fine some good buys there...

sounds like a 4 stroke quad would be the cheapest, safest, most reliable machine for a single lady.the honda 400 and the yamaha warrior do fine.the 400 edges out the warrior from what i've seen.

Im looking for a few grand...thats about it...I dont have a truck or anything so im going to have to find someone who loves me enough to let me hitch a ride with them for a season or at least part of it...I dont think it will fit very well in my little shoe car.

ok reading these posts id say if you are a guy to go with a two stroke or hig performance four stroke cuz most guys when first starting out want something easy to learn on then are disappointed in the long run when they can hang with their friends. however your not a guy so thats a good start. rumor has it honda is coming out with a new 4 wheeled toy and so being that i think the 400 ex might come down in price. (new and used). it seems to always be a cause when a new product comes out. so id stick to a four stroke quad cuz they are all around easier to maintain and keep up.

thats my $.02
