Looks to be built better than a SCF Rhino.

I'm gonna get flamed but here goes.....comes with a winch, has a real alternator instead of a stator, 4 wheel discs. Ditch the granny basket and the goofy pushbar, put some decent seats in it and inspect the welds, maybe add more tubes where they're needed?????????

Nice Side by Side.
Mr. Off-Road
so from what I am seeing this vehicle doesnt appear to be a poorly made and imported from China off-road vehicle... is that the general consensus?
socaldmax
What engine in it?
Crusty
WOW....website says on sale for $5k...

Motor looks like a Toyota 22r copy....a little smaller.

Ergos and center of gravity look MUCH safer than a Rhino...

aside from some cross bracing behing the passenger compartment it looks ok to me. can the chasis really be any worse than a rhino?

It's hard to tell, I downloaded the engine manual PDF but still couldn't figurr it out.
Mr. Off-Road
I think I just discovered that at least its engines origin is from the far east.

Here is the translation of the engines owners manual from the website. After reading it I could only imagine how satisfied I would be with its reliability.

It looks to be built better than a stock Rhino, has a 4 speed tranny rather than a CVT and is only $6000.

By the time someone bought a stock Rhino, added lights, real 4 or 5 point harnesses, nice rims and tires, and painted it, they'd be into it for $17-20K.

This is a lot closer to the finished product, with a bigger engine, for $6K.

Sounds like a deal to me at 1/3 of $18K!

Yes, even the new Polaris RZR doesnt have as much cargo capacity as this vehicle. They might have the same size engine but this one does have a manual transmission! Plus you cant beat the price with a stick, its so affordable! Even comes with side panels and you can get an option for a turbo!
Crusty
As with any of the Import ROC buggies, dirt bikes and mopeds...
The problem comes in when something breaks.

This however being a large vehicle...you could fab stuff and make it work. Unlike some small pit bike.
9rocky
It looks like it was built by Sum Yung Guy.
calbred
The engine is based on a suzuki fb8. The biggest problem with those buggies is the cv's break after about a hour of use.
Crusty
CV's....hmm....The Axle looks VERY thin.

At only 950 lbs. it has me a little leary. Whats the chassis made out of? Muffler tubing?

There are a lot of VW powered rails that were advertised as being lighter than that. Light weight used to be what guys argued about at the fire, with the argument usually ending with the guy and his son picking up the rail and walking off.

Well its definitely built better than a Sand Candy Sand Rail. laugh1.gif

I got the Joyner version of these. It looks as if it is a knock off of the Joyner 800cc. If you dune one of these you would be surprised as to how well they handle. Joyner has a 3 cylinder Isuzu motor in it with a turbo kit great bang for the buck. You don't have to worry about rolling it like a rhino the center of gravity is low.
unclejay
Problems with Chinese dune buggies (Venon, Joyner and the like)

- Cheapo bolts, when you torque them the heads snap off
- Low strength steel tubing
- Engines are usually fork lift or small industrial truck origin, low revving amd very slow
Do not believe any claims about Honda, Toyota etc they are NOT true
- Long wait for spare parts or may be non-existant
- May not be be CARB legal in CA which means you cant even get a green sticker
Many are also not legal DOT imports which is big trouble
- Break down but that is a relative issue.
- Heavy for engine size due to heavy tubing and cheapo components
Heavy does not necessarily equate to strong

They look good.

Reminds me that rhyme the girls used to jumprope to.

The joyner is a much better product. The new engine is a 3 cyclinder 800cc FI with dohc 12v . It is designed in Austria and is used in fiat's as well as the Chinesse Chery vehicle brand. They can be purchased at auction for about 7k. Joyner USA does a good job with stocking parts.

Hey the price is right! It would appear it is a better car than the Joyner... I would sure like to see one in person (even if it is from taiwan or china).

Has anyone seen these in person? I was thinking about getting one for my son. I would need to move the seat up and forward so he could drive it.

Here is a post a friend of mine wrote from another forum in regards to these types of vehicles

QUOTE
Hey all, ... If you want the best and really the only no BS info on Chinese buggies go to buggynews.com. I am a moderator there, but am in no way trying to promote the site. A rhino and a buggy are two different rides. BuggyNews is mainly focused on the around 3K minibuggies, but the manufacturers keep making them bigger. I am not sure if the larger 800cc will go straight up Olds or not, but I saw one on top last time I was out there. That does not mean much as I have had my 250 up there many times. Just have to work my way around the side. They are honestly a blast. I bought mine instead of purchasing a Golf Cart. Way more fun in my opinion. Only a few of the negatives posted are really true. Things like they are heavier than they need to be because the chinese steel is weaker than ours so they make it thicker. In two years I have twisted off 2 bolts in the cage. There are a lot of positives though. They are inexpensive. The smaller engines 150/250 are bullet proof. Rarely read about anyone having any problems. Do your research. There are a lot of crap brands out there. Don't buy off ebay. Those are all crap. If you go on the site make sure you know what you are reading as most on there have modded theirs and when you start changing things you are bound to have issues. So don't read the problem section and think they break down a lot without the whole story. Basically the same thing as anyone would see on a Rhino site. I have a Rhino and a buggy and I am not getting rid of either one. Sorry to ramble. Just wanted to help get good info out there. Don't let the Thunderinc site prices scare you. You can get them a lot cheaper than posted. Thousands

It is built by Roketa out of china. I had one for 6 months and it was alot of fun and had a top speed of 60 mph. It was great in the whoops went everywhere a rhino went and handled extremely well. It also was carburated, but climbed every hill in Dove Springs without a problem. It was not quick at all, it was VERY sluggish out of the hole. It didn't do that well in the sand because of power issues but once it got up to speed it was fine. I did have a few problems. It always had electrical problems from fuses to ingnition to lighting the shop I bought it from took it back to manufacturer in Ontario, Ca 3 times and they always said nothing was wrong. It always leaked oil and it needs a good skid plate.

It is a great starter vehicle but needs to have kinks worked out by manufacturer. I bought mine to get in the sport and am upgrading to a king sand car.
