Just read this article at Dirt Wheels....
49.000 GLAMIS ACRES OPENED TO OHV'S--JUNE 10
The U.S. Bureau of Land Management has reversed a three-year-old policy that set aside a significant portion of the dunes to protect fragile plant and animal species, including the desert tortoise. The plan opens up 49,000 acres that had been closed to OHVs.
The sand dunes of Glamis encompass an intimidating 160,000 acres of land east of San Diego. California, and offer some of the most challenging sand riding in the nation. Thanksgiving weekend, in particular, sees literally hundreds of thousands of OHV owners converging on the dunes for day-and-night riding action.
The new plan does not set a cap on on the number of overnight campers, but the BLM says the optimum number is around 80,000. The BLM says they are prepared to handle crowds as large as 200,000, when extra law enforcement personnel will be on hand.
To handle the larger crowds, OHV owners should expect increasing fees as well as having to use the reservation system. The plus side to these fees will be additional telephones, toilets, road grading, dust control, trash pickup and vendor areas will be available, along with a new ranger station.
Please do your part to keep riding areas open no matter where you live. Don't harass wildlife, ride only in permitted areas, and obey the laws. Both the environment and your fellow OHV owners will appreciate it!
Here's the part that troubles me....

I haven't heard of a reservation system that would suck.
I'll hold my breath for the "additional telephones, toilets, road grading, dust control, trash pickup"
Yea theres gonna be alot of "Additional" Vendors spots available all right.
And Surprise Surprise a new ranger station..... Go figure

They must be talking about the pilot reservation program starting this year for the Roadrunner camping loop. If it is "successful" it will spread to other areas.
This is something we'll be talking about tonight.
I'm not counting on those 49,000 acres coming back to us with the ease of making the RAMP official. I'm holding my breath until I'm sure there are no lawsuits able to hold up the works.

Where the heck did this come from !!!. I check this or other info boards almost every night, and this blows me away !!!!!!!!!. Is this some kind of inside info, or a big hoax??? I am more concerned about the inside info part of it, especially coming from a motobike mag. Not to rag on the motox<ers, but coming from a group I havent seen or associated with the dune closure fight in the past, Wasssss upp!!!!!!!!!!

Put it this way; at this point the dunes are not open.
We are not sure how they will open, exactly, but they will open. Just aren't yet.
I'm really certain that when the final word comes down as to exactly what we get to do, you'll see it here first!

Obviously the people that knew this stuff, Felt it was better to keep it under thier collective hats.....
I mean we're just the general duning community no reason to bother us with trivial details....
Hold on ... I'm going to go stick my head back in the sand.

I've read the same mis-information in other places that is quoted in the magazine.
Trust me, at this point, no one really knows what or how the dunes will be re-opened.
Also, no one is trying to keep information from you.
Do you think they'll just give them up and let us go like before? Will they make us get permits and pass a test? Will the mothereffen CBD find another plant/animal/fungus to protect and re-file?
From what I understand right now, the CBD has filed another lawsuit to keep them closed, regardless of the final RAMP. I believe the ASA and several other organizations have also filed to stop them. This is the way of the greens; court rooms and make it cost us plenty to keep our land.

Thats because the BLM brass are trained negotiators.
You don't give something away without getting something in return.
It's a chip in their game ..... We need a chip we are willing to give up... Or.... Bump the stakes..
Example: start fighting to reopen the north side of 78.
Agree ( once again) to leave that area alone if we can have all of the south side ( which was the original agreement ) no?

Keeping information from us and providing that information to us are two different things.
Maybe I haven't paid enough attention to the ASA board etc. , but it would seem that every effort should be made to get information to the Duning community as it is made available. I'm paying attention now!

There is a difference between keeping something from the duning community and having the information available but not disseminating it to the duning community.
Just my opinion, but I think there's a lot of both happening, and it's pervasive. What I mean is, it's not just one organization. It seems to be a pattern or perhaps just a habit of many organizations. Dole out only certain information, sometimes using the excuse that "they just wouldn't be able to grasp the reasoning" behind whatever move is being made.
That may have been true many years ago... maybe everyone was happy just going to their favorite riding spot and letting the man behind the curtain run all the controls.
But there's a different breed out using the land now. People are more aware and less trusting of the government processes. They're beginning to see that they do have some control over the process and once they learn they actually can have some control over the future of their riding areas, they start to demand it.
IMHO, now is the time for the OHV leaders to stop saying "they just wouldn't be able to grasp the reasoning" and to start making it their goal to help the users grasp the reasoning.

The problem is it's not your land. It belongs to 275,000,000 Americans.
If it was your land, you would take care of it and not allow impacts to threaten the wildlife, you wouldn't allow people to be killed by driving crazy in a lawless environment.

You are correct Blue,it is our land and I think you should go take a long walk for several hours out in the dunes and enjoy yourself. The summer heat would love to have its way with you.Ive yet to see any greenies out for a hike in the dunes, and you will never understand what joy this place brings to so many people and families. You can take the dark side of anything, but the majority of Glamis goers are great people who wouldnt do anything to abuse "our land".After one sandstorm our tracks are removed as if they never existed and nature continues on its course, year after year.Your kind will always say you want to save a plant, turtle, bird or any form of life to close down areas like Glamis/Pismo ect. even if you have to fabricate impact studies.
I know,I should simply ignore Blue, but I just dont get it!!!

He doesn't either Mike. He's just a troll, coming on here to stir up trouble. It's a habit or a hobby or he's a hobbit. Something like that anyway.
Try not to feed the troll

GREAT! EXCELLENT!
There are a lot of people paying a lot more attention than I am. Just start asking.
Ask Sailaway, Vicki has lots of knowledge.
You can email the ASA.
You can call the BLM.
You can get so much information that it'll take you days to disseminate it.
"This land is your land, this land is my land,
From the Gulf Stream waters to the redwood forests,
This land was made for you and me."
If you don't like how I use my land Blue, bite me. I most likely won't approve of how you use my land either.

I have also heard the excuse that "things are happening so fast there isn't time to explain it to people."
That may have been true for some things; not everything.
It gets a little tiring when you are told about new rules or restrictions or whatever that are being implemented and then you later find out that when they could have put input in, the silence from the OHV leadership was deafening. Or quite the opposite of what we would expect them to be saying.
