The EPO Staff is a team made up the most decitated, hard working, and loyal folks you could ever imagine. Long hours of preperation, organizing, and down right hard work is what they do each and every race. Their jobs don't end when the race is over either. They make sure the track is clean and everyone returns back to the base camp. Once back at camp - they prep for the awards, cook to fill tummys, and clean up afterwards.

Their Volunteers and their goal/ mission statement is to make sure every racer has the race of a lifetime in a safe manner.

What makes these great folks do what they do every single race?

Simple. Their EPO Veteran Racers themselves and know 1st hand what it takes to keep these races moving. Hell, they might even get a little bitchy and bossy with you as a racer - just understand, their job is to supply 30+ racers with information, saftey, and guidence. Please be patient with them.

Jobs of the EPO STIFFS errr STAFF:

  • CAUTION FLAGGERS

The most important aspect of each and every EPO is safety.  Riding through the dunes is a danger in itself.  There are many blind spots, transitions, witch-eyes, and drops that come at you quickly.  However, the most dangerous duning obstacle is fellow duners.  Slappy needed to have competent people in strategic positions throughout the track to alert riders of any hazards that might arise.  EVENT STAFF caution flaggers would be positioned in blind spot areas to alert the riders of any danger.  For example, there might be a duner out on a ride that is not part of the EPO program.  They could easily stroll onto or through the track while an EPO member is on his or her run.  This is a huge safety factor.  The caution flagger would be responsible for alerting the EPO member of the situation, and flag the run.  Each caution flagger is equipped with a yellow caution flag and radio.  The radios are a very important tool for caution flaggers.  They are used to call in penalties, and are first responders to any outside intrusions.

  • RUNNERS

The Runners are free floating Event Staffers on quads that are first responders.  If a call comes in from a caution flagger that there are duners outside the event coming towards the track, it is the Runners responsibility to intercept that person or group, inform them of what is going on, and welcome them in to watch.  Runners must have a good, friendly attitude with a constant smile.  At any time, a duner or group not associated with the event can go directly through the event if they please.  It is the Runners responsibility only to inform them of the situation and possible danger, hand them a Glamisdunes.com flag, and ask them if they would like to observe.  If any non-event duners get too close before the Runner intercepts, the EPO member doing their run is flagged; stopping the time, and halting the event.  At no time will a Runner or Event Staffer ever tell non participants that they cannot ride through the area.  The EPO event will never close its borders to the duning rider or bystander, only encourage and hope that they would stop and watch, or pass through.

  •

  • EVENT TIMERS

  • Our timers are a very important group.  They are the ones that are in control of the stop-watches.  There are a minimum of three stop watches running during a members run.  The lowest of the three is the members recorded time; granted that the lowest time isn’t off by more than 2 seconds from the other timers.

  •

  • START FINISH FLAGGER

The start finish flagger is a grueling job.  He must be on his feet the entire event.  He is responsible for keeping the member informed on when he/she’s time begins, 1 lap left, and the checkered flag.  He is also the closest one to the track; a dangerous position.  He must be light on his feet, and alert at all times.  We have the best start/finish flagger in the business.

  • EVENT STAGER

This position is one of the hardest positions, and the most important.  The Event Stager is responsible for alerting the racers when they are scheduled to run.  He/she is the first contact to the racer before that racer goes out onto the track.  He/she stages 3 racers deep and choreographs the line-up. He/she is equipped with a megaphone and radio, is in constant contact with the Start/Finish Flagger and Timers, and is standing on their feet all day long.  This is also a very grueling job and murder on the lower back.  They are responsible for talking to the racers.  They must have a smile at all times, and be willing to tell jokes and have fun with the staged racer.  This is very important as it eases the nerves of the racer before they begin his/her run.

  • BOARD ADMIN

This position is of vital importance.  The Board Admin is responsible for documenting each and every participants time.  They are also responsible for informing the stager who is ready to be staged.  The Board Admin records penalties, split times, and final time.  She is in constant communication with the timers, caution flaggers, stager, and runners.  The base of the EPO event falls into the lap of the Board Admin.
