Most of us have first aid kits in our homes and even RVs but do you have a first aid kit with you in the dunes and do you know how to use it? Being prepared by always having some basic supplies and the knowledge and skills to use them could save someone's life. What is in your FA kit? What would you add or take away for your "ride or die" kit? SAM Splint 2x triangle bandage/cravat 2x 2x2 gauze 2x 4x4 gauze 1x roller gauze 1x occlusive bandage CPR shield Tape Scissors Tweezers 2x butterfly bandage Band-aids Liquid Benadryl (for unconscious) Glucose Electrolyte tabs Burn cream Neosporin Alcohol wipes Tourniquet Any prescriptions re…

The ISDRA Desert Advisory Subgroup for the dunes is asking for additional members. This subgroup works with the BLM on how fees are spent and other maintenance issues at the ISDRA. It meets at least three times each dune season and helps priortize issues with the BLM. If you are not familiar with the Desert Advisory Council you can review their website here. Chris Holbert is the owner/operator of Predator Paramotor and he had a bad crash in the dunes 4 days ago and was life flighted out. He broke his sacrum on impact and has a long road ahead of him and could use any help you can provide. https://gofund.me/2a4b2f48 Chris made the jump to powered paragliding after years of racing sport bikes at the amateur level. Chris is the type of guy always willing to help out anyone in need and rarely ask for help when he needs it. He is currently at Desert Regional Medical Center and in a great deal of pain awaiting surgery. Please help if you can and also spread the go fund me through other media sources if you have the ability. Th…

3 hours of driving in 30mph+ side winds. Semis were blowing into my lane as they passed. Exciting drive in for sure. Kept it at 55-60 mph. Side winds blew my new pass off the windshield. I have my ASA receipt with me. So now what? Hardly anyone here but the ranger was already checking passes today. Write a little love note and tape my receipt on the windshield for now? You would think $150 would buy decent glue to keep it on. Although it was harsh. Worst I have driven in other than going across Oklahoma with this thing. Looked like the apocalypse pulling in.

If you've gone to Glamis long enough you've likely had the misfortune of witnessing or even being party to a collision or accident. We play in a pretty remote area and help, other than some basic FA triage, is generally delayed. Thankfully cell coverage has improved and GPS units/apps are commonplace and calling in a bird is a lot easier than it used to be. All of that considered, there's a few steps you can take to improve your mental and physical health, should the unforeseen ever happen to you - medical emergency information ON HAND! Having the details isn't just for people that have a serious condition, it's for everyone. If/when you or a loved one ever needs med…
