NIKAL
Good & informative on everything that’s going on. Everyone on this thread should watch it to answer questions. Even FOG’s question about why is Robby & the engineering staff in Asia still? The new Polaris Stop/Ride was used as a perfect example of why they are there. Todd explains why they have not faced some of the challenges the others have with shortages or using a single source suppliers. They sure seem very confident that all pre ordered customers will have cars, including Bandit orders by the end of the year. The goal is to start delivering before Sand Sports, with a potential 150 cars delivered at Sand Sports and cars being delivered every day after that depending on your location.

I would have thought this would have been around $800? Am I wrong and do you think $1300 is fairly priced for front & rear cameras, belt temp and tire pressure monitors? Man no kidding. All I really wanted was the backup camera and belt temp sensor. Thought those would be plug and play, not have to take it in to program it for the display to show. Stinks we can’t purchase separately and have it installed from the factory.

I want the rear camera, and the belt temp would be nice. They did say we will eventually be able to buy the pieces separately and they did show the pricing on the video. That’s probably the way I’d go. Looks like you would have to get both cameras though. I can’t imagine unlocking the dash will take more then 30 min to 1 hour of labor time from the dealer to turn on. Tire monitors would take longer like Todd said because of the dismounting & mounting if the tires. Honestly why can’t that just be activated from the dash manufacture? I don’t see a reason the program could not be turned on as standard, so anyone buying the accessories can’t just be plug & play like originally proposed. Guessing it’s a way to “Up Sell” and make you buy it now. Just like they made it clear even if we have closed out our buyers form we can still add it and it will be installed. I wonder where the rear camera will be mounted? Originally Robby talked about the tailgate, but if you remove the tailgate you’d lose the camera. Then it was said it could be mounted on the roof next to the upper chase light. I’d bet that’s where it ends up?

Like Todd said you can buy the Razorback belt sensor for $50 less then theirs will be, but it would not work off their dash. Maybe aftermarket will make one? Plus Todd told me with Delphi (Aptiv) supplying the wire harness and connectors. You will have to get the Delphi (Aptiv) connectors for any aftermarket accessory. The connectors are reasonable, but you will need the crumpet tool to make them. If you cut off the Speed harness connecter to plug in your own, you can void the electrical system warranty. For those that don’t know these connectors are GM’s version of Weather Pack connectors. They are really nice.

The belt sensor is $399 and the cameras $499 ~$900 without installation and programming. Figure another $120-$220 for the dealer to program it that’s about $1100. For a bit more I can have it all and installed from the factory for $1299. Oh well it’s only money.

DTA
After some direct discussion today, I'll be adding the bundle on Tuesday. That's all I can say.
NIKAL
I’d have some questions before I would pull the trigger. Like where is the rear camera mounted? I’m guessing in the rear roof area by the chase light, but originally it was going in the tailgate, but what if I pull the tailgate to push the spare back? How do I activate the camera, or does it turn on when in reverse? How does the tire pressure system function? Todd said it will know each sensor location. So if I rotate the tires, how to I rotate the sensors location and how much effort is it? If I mount the spare and am carrying a flat, does the dash annoy the hell out of me because it thinks I’m still on the flat? How do you shut it off? If a sensor is mounted in the spare, how do I tell the computer where it is? Again is that a PITA? Do I get a sensor for my pre-bought spare tire? How do it get one if not? Can I set any pressures I want, or if I chose to run 12 psi will the lights stay on because I’m lower then the predetermined PSI?
CampfiresNbrews
@DTA sounds like you got some good info. I’m Thinking turn signals will be doable then? @NIKAL those are some really good questions. I thought about marking each wheel before taking them off. So when I replace them i know which goes where. But if I had to mount the spare, that would get annoying if the dash doesn’t recognize it and keeps notifications going.
Rockwood
@NIKAL Tire pressures: my cars have it displayed for each individual wheel. I’ve rotated them myself a couple of times, haven’t had to tell the car I did it, just figures it out. There are multiple sensors and the computer uses process of elimination to figure out which is which automatically. Might take a couple of minutes to sync, but it figures it out. Only programming you need, to my knowledge, is you usually only have to register new sensors to the vehicle to get the receivers to recognize them. Flat spare won’t say anything since the TPMS sensor needs to rotate to work. Edited July 3 by Rockwood

I know we've heard promise dates several times before which pissed off so many. What makes these dates any different? At least this time around they actually have cars and parts to show off vs the ladder. BUT they are still in China and finalizing fit and finish on some stuff. Yes Tod said they hit the green button on several parts, but a car cant be built without 100% of all parts. ala computer chip issue hurting the industy. They never mentioned anything about parts already in Texas and from what I hear its a least a month backed up to ship out from China, then it sits at port of LA a few weeks. Perfect world some parts could be here early Sept but its not perfect anymore. If I could take delivery late Oct, I'd be thrilled but my bet is it will get here by Christmas. It would be great if they have just a few real production units at the sand show this year to shut up all the haters.
Dunegod
My guess is the shipments from China will arrive at the port in Houston, thus avoiding the cluster f going on at the ports in LA.

Gulf coast and Long Beach are about tied for queue lines now. The time lost going down through Panama Canal (plus fees) probably isn’t better than the transit time to TX from Long Beach.

True statement in normal times, but you have to now figure in time spent sitting offshore waiting for a spot to unload before the transit to TX can happen. I hadn’t heard of major backlogs at the port in Houston. Either way it’s a logistical nightmare.

I don’t think LA is that backed up at all right now the green represent container ships compared to where this was a year ago there is not that many it’s not Biden that helped us out either it’s just a fact they haven’t sent many over in the last three months due to Asia/China Covid shut down That’s assuming they go to LA for all their container deliveries I’m assuming they’re not going through the canal and up into Texas
jginsandiego
I would be less concerned about the offloading rather than getting the parts and having them on a ship that is the biggest issue at this time just getting the components.

I thought the same thing awhile back BUT the latest videos they’ve shown doesn’t seem like they’re concerned about it being an issue at all They have multiple suppliers and have been stockpiling parts for some time. Sounded like RG will be back stateside in a couple of weeks rather than at the end of the month as was first discussed. I took that as a good sign that things are looking really good!! NIKAL
The last three weeks the sea shipments the company I work for has taken us 5 weeks from the TW or HK port to San Diego door. Earlier this year we got up to 10 weeks, with the majority taking 8 weeks. Prior to the Long Beach Port back up mess, our Ocean transit was around 18 days, with another 8-10 days for transport from the port to the Brokerage warehouse and then to SD. So roughly 4 weeks. If the container was not in a closed area at the port, we could shave a few days off of that. I always calculated everything at 4 weeks. So being at 5 the past 3 weeks is a very good sign. I think the next big hurdle is not going to be the ports backlog, but the truckers not being able to go to the ports, or broker warehouses. Fuel is killing them, SB5 law is waiting for the Supreme Court ruling in October. If not overturned it will end the independent truckers in California. The next CARB mandates for entering the ports & rail yards starts in 2023? This will eliminate more truckers and independents. IMO these self inflicted mandates are going to cause more problems vs when we were short chassis to load containers on, or the container shortage. Wait until 2030 & 2035 when only electric trucks will be able to access the ports & rail yards. I got a great story about the electric truck the Port of San Diego is using. Total fraud!
