Corrode/destroy Aluminum?

Recommended Posts

Any ways to corrode/dissolve/degredate aluminum? I have some sentimental objects I want to destroy safely, effeciently and efectively.

Tossing in the ocean not much of an option

Hydrochloric acid aka Muriatic acid from your neighborhood pool store does wonders on aluminum.

You don't need a cutting torch. Just a torch. Even a propane torch will melt the alum. Have you never thrown a beer can in the fire at camp?

The aluminum has stuff inside. I'm trying to avoid anything too severe.

Anyone else confirm muriatic route?

My kid did science experiment for school not long ago. I donated some old aluminum v-drive rigging to the experiment- dipped in straight pool acid for 12 hours had it about 60% dissolved. It works.

Like mentioned, Mercury will destroy aluminum. Thus the reason thermometer's aren't allowed on airplanes.

We could throw the rosebud tip on my acetylene set up and melt it easy...I also have the propane torch but the acetylene set up is more fun!
