Ok, I’ve had a Gen 3 all these years. Just got a Gen 4 and it’s time to take things apart. Got the trailing arms off, had to use a sawzall as two of the bolts had welded themselves to the bushings.

On to the Cv’s. Got them out, soaked in diesel, and wiped down. Not super impressed with how they look, but I may be able to squeeze another season out of them before replacing.

The hubs; got most of it apart. Got the CV body out and the bearing that it goes onto it.  got the inner piece that it bolts to out and wiped down as well. Pulled the 5 bolts that hold the housing to the trailing arm and thought maybe it’d just pop out like everything else, but it didn’t.

So the question of the day is will it take a press to get that out, or more importantly get it back in? I don’t mind beating on it a bit but don’t want to eff anything up. And if it’s going to take a press to put it back in then there is no sense in me beating it out. Arms are going to Funco to have uniballs welded in, so I could probably just have them do it if it’s going to turn into a big pain in the ass.

Got it out with a little tap of the hammer, should’ve kept going before posting. But now that it’s out don’t see how to get the bearing out, back to needing a press again I presume. Don’t think that race is just going to pop out.

Guessing this stuff hasn’t been apart since 2004.

I’m sure all the more experienced guys will chime in but heat typically helps. Just gotta heat the carrier without the heat getting into the race and “it should” come out or at least help.

Taking arms to Funco for the uniballs and also going to have them rebuild the shocks. Time to spend some money on parts and start putting it back together.

With the exception of the seatbelts and fuel filler hose this should be about it for disassembly. Arms and shocks are at Funco. Viar compressor, steering wheel, fuel lines and fittings ordered and on the way. Got to order some more stuff, trying to not add up receipts🤣🤣.

Looking good!  I just picked up a Gen 4 and my summer prep will be underway in a few weeks.  Whatever you do don't add up the receipts! Lol

Got the arms and shocks back. Powdered arms black. After some cleaning, all the bearings and Cvs looked good. Got everything repacked and put back together. Squirted the last little bit of grease into the Cv boots and the rear suspension is back together. Gotta order new seat belts and tanks for the air compressor. Making progress...

Front suspension is back together minus steering rack and tie rods. Rack got rebuilt and is hopefully on its way. Just need to reinstall and torque everything down and suspension will be put back together and ready to roll.

Ordered some seatbelts from Crow today. Should be here early next week as they’ve already shipped. Gotta order some air tanks for the compressor this weekend...

Steering rack came back. Got it mounted. Suspension is all torqued (3 Ugga Duggas). Put the wheels on and that’s it for the front end.

I just went through the same issue with the trailing arm bolts welding themselves to the bushing sleeve.  Effing nightmare.  Beat it very hard for a long time.  Wouldn't move.  Finally cut them out. 2 of the 4 had to be cut out. Pics are of the good ones, and the welded ones.

Good question, but I don't see why not.  Maybe I'll just take the arm to McKenzies and have them recommend the hardware for it.

Grade 8 and antisieze just like I did to every bolt on your front end and you'll be fine. No need to convert to uniballs.

@L.R.S. is my  personal buggy maintenance advisor.  So I'm going Grade 8 and generous amounts of anti-seize!

Gen4 with a V8, love it!  It's cool to see some Northstars still around too.
