In preparation for the Mojave Trail, added a table and a hot water vessel:

Both worked great. Water was 90*-ish in the evenings (much appreciated at 6000’ at New York Mountain with the wind howling).

Just 4 2.5" hinges and some self-tappers.

Just built up a Jeep Commander, most probably don't know much about them. They can come with a Hemi (mine does) they also have Quadra Drive system (mine does) and they also can have E lockers front and rear (mine does). Its Jeeps attempt at a 3 row luxury vehicle, also has rain sensing wipers, 3rd row separate a/c, heated seats etc. I am driving it everyday so I didn't go crazy with the lift 3" with 32"  tires

I do miss my 06 TJ. I probably should have kept it, but I couldn't get the sandcar signed off from the bride without selling her. I just love the feeling of being in the cab.. I always used to say, MILITARY STYLE.. .. JEEP!

I used to run around in this one quite a bit.  Mostly just sits in my shop and makes an occasional trip for ice cream now.

Finished up the back end of the rig a few weeks back. got spring rates and valving good for the time being (front cant keep up) and had to try a few different driveshafts to finally get vibs to stop

All finished and threw it on the fork lift to check clearances and adjust preload.

ssyP87Kl.jpg

FLb7G7Vl.jpg

Then took it on a 200 mile dirt trip from wickenburg to golden valley to prerun some roads. Did great till i decided to try to flex it on a concrete wall and the hacked up diff mount i had on the front diff broke, taking the CV axle with it. just a buddy and i in the rig all day. sent out a GPS coordinates to some family and friends incase we didnt return that night. carried lots of spare stuff for field fixes as well (planned it like a baja trip as thats what im building this thing for).

That trip killed off a strut i had dieing and told me i needed a rear spring change and a valving change. we used the hydro bumps ALOT. good thing i soften them up prior to the trip so they didnt break our backs. front struts are actually rear struts off a pontiac grand prix. they are longer and net me more wheel travel as well as have decent valving in them. they are just cheapy 30 amazon ones though. i threw them on knowing i would be going long travel at some point. These require hogging out the mounting holes so cut the old tabs off and used them as templates. took about an hour to change.

PHIQIVsl.jpg

Then on to the front diff mount. again, not a whole lot of "care" here as it just has to hold long enough for the new front end. took the old cast peices, tacked back together, plated, heated to 500*, welded it all up, clearanced the frame mount and threw it back together. then put a warrantied out cv axle back in.

u1impRKl.jpg

zxUkz6pl.jpg

as for the front end, im going all out. i have an old front frame section from another grand vitara that i will be build the front end off of. i decided to ditch the stock steel front diff for a ford explorer IRS diff from a 2010. this will barely fit up front, gives me WAY more ring and pinion (stock is 7") and i have a couple ideas on how ill off set it and make the CV axles work. no way to center mount it without major oil pan issues.

Any updates on this odd duck? :bigrin

Sprayed in a raptor liner on the interior of the CJ7. Floor had a bunch of surface rust from having carpet since 1981. Stuff worked good as was pretty forgiving. Hopefully my prep was good.
