SV-16 The good, the bad and the ugly???

Recommended Posts

Hey GD's,

So my buddy is looking at a Chenowth SV-16.  I've seen them around in the past but don't know anyone who has owned or driven one.  Does anyone have any experience with them?  They look like they were way ahead of their time with the inboard brake setup in the rear.  What CV's do they use and can you still get parts for them?  Is this a car worth getting into?  It has a turbo 2.5 subi and an .091 in it.  The front A-arms use a regular ball joint...what ball joint is that in case one fails?

Thanks,

~jw

Great cars. Handle well and the cage will do what it's supposed to in a crash. Sucks to work on them though...

Nice cars handle well, last one I worked on used an early vw ball joint from like a karman Ghia front arm. They are pretty heavy duty. Some are pressed in and tack welded. I bought replacements at Napa.

Weird dual shock 5 link covers up a lot of the drivetrain?

They are a rear A-arm car with a dual coilover...similar to the Genesis and Exodus cars.  Looks like most of them use an older bus style CV.  I wonder if that could be upgraded to a 930?

Rear A arm car. Tough to access bolts and such. My buddies has 930's so yes they can be put on.
