"ESPN host compares Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to a slave owner"

On the same day that Jemele Hill was suspended from ESPN for tweeting about politics, another network personality, Michael Wilbon, compared Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to a slave owner.

Mr. Wilbon, co-host of “Pardon the Interruption,” took issue with Mr. Jones’ stance that players who do not stand for the national anthem before football games will not play.

“And the word that comes to my mind―and I don’t care who doesn’t like me using it―is plantation,” Mr. Wilbon said on Monday’s show. “The players are here to serve me, and they will do what I want. No matter how much I pay them, they are not equal to me. That’s what this says to me and mine.”

ESPN declined to comment on Mr. Wilbon’s remarks.

The take-a-knee protests roiling the NFL escalated once again on Sunday, when Vice President Mike Pence walked out of the Indianapolis Colts-San Francisco 49ers game, after 23 members of 49ers did not stand for the anthem.

Later that day, after his team’s loss to the Green Bay Packers, Mr. Jones told reporters that players who refuse to

Is football still on the air? Been three weeks, watched two seconds of a game as I was skipping through channels. I couldn't have imagined how easy its been to walk away, I don't even hate the NFL just don't care. I have all my NFL / Raider shizz in my man cave that I haven't gone in, looks like a time capsule.

Funny...Roger Goodell is now telling players to stand....only after Trump threatens to take away their tax exempt status.   Money talks, not their fake convictions.

But seriously...why is the NFL tax exempt?  I hope Trump follows through an takes their status away.  Aside from a big middle finger to them, why does do they even have this?

They have not been tax exempt for quite some time.

The players that think they're above rest are still going to squat or whatever they're doing this week. They'll dare the owners or NFL to discipline them. Unfortunately most of them have already been paid enough money to live on so they do kind of have the upperhand.

This isn't over yet.

Imagine how a Charger Fan feels, a shrine dedicated to being second place at best....like once.

At least you have historical significance.

Not being sensitive to how this has been perceived by their target audience will be their biggest regret right along with not easily putting a stop to it as soon as it started.

Between this and bringing the concussion issue to the forefront is probably going to change the game and the participation rates on all levels forever.

I read it...don't care.  If they have $0.01 that is tax exempt, that's too much.

Also, I have an idea/plan to remove tax exempt status from churches as well.  They can exempt reasonable operating costs to include a reasonable salary for pastor and staff.  Above and beyond that, everything is taxed.  If they do in fact give money to non-profit programs to feed and help those less fortunate, then they can write it off.  If not, pay taxes.

I'm pretty sure this would only affect people like Joel Osteen.  Dude does not need a $10 million dollar mansion and I'm pretty sure God would disagree too.

I've watched maybe a couple of hours of football this whole season so far (instead of a couple of hours a weekend).  My usual Monday morning round of sports sites has declined to ZERO.

1080p?  Yore Granny called, she wants her TV back.  4K hoss! :bigrin

The NFL is still tax exempt despite dropping their status 2 years ago.  How?  Every cent of their "profit" is sent to the teams, employees, etc (all of whom pay taxes).  The NFL makes no money at all, and therefore pays no taxes.

A non-profit tax-exempt entity must, you guessed it, zero out profits at the end of the year, resulting in no taxes paid.  As for churches: same thing.  All profits must be zeroed at the end of the year.  Those payees (pastor, employees, etc) pay taxes on their income just like the rest of us.  Are there bad apples?  Yep, but just like taking guns away won't solve mass shootings in the US and just needlessly punishes the law-abiding, taking all churches' non-profit status just needlessly punishes what are 99.99999% law-abiding entities.  If you removed their tax-exempt/non-profit status (501(c)(3) or whatever), you'd just make it harder for people to donate to them.  If you think our homeless/drug addict problem is bad now, just wait until the only ones able to do anything about it is the government.

The NFL dropped it because people apparently don't understand how taxes work.

I have a friend from Washington who is a big fan I any team from Washington. I myself do not follow sports at all. Anyway last years Rams / Seahawks game he bought 8 tickets and rented a party bus to take us all to the game. It was going to be a yearly deal for our group of friends. This year he mentioned it and I told him that I'd go just to hang out with the friends but that I felt like not going due to the protests. After the Vegas shooting my wife decided she did not want to go to the game, I was glad she made that call because I was having guilt balancing going and partying with my friends vs supporting the NFL.

Not mine, but you get the idea...  I waited until the thing either died (which it didn't) or something new came out that was an actual improvement (that beast was still 1080i).

My wife and I avoid anything football related. If we are cruising the channels and come across a game, we change the channel as if it were a movie/show we want to see and don't want to spoil it by watching it already in progress. lol!

It' a real bummer. Sunday was always a "happy" day.. football, food, naps, friends, good times.

We've been going to Aztec games for last 4 years (season ticket holders) and while it somewhat cures the pain, it's just not the same.

Sad , really is......this all started over blacks accusing cops and the 49r's kaperdick bringing politics to the NFL.

Again athletes and musicians bringing it to the table. To say the least most of the two groups are not educated in politics and most went to school for their trade.

We're starting to see seeds that were sown in the last 20 years in public education. When the Teacher's Union came up with the thought of manufacturing good citizens as their primary purpose the table was set. Quite brilliant actually as test scores and graduation rates can be ignored when your main goal is something that can't be quantified, producing good citizens.

These coddled children are now young adults with firm beliefs like a tie is the only civilized way to terminate a competition and redistribution of wealth is not a failed political experiment well documented through history.

I'd say these people are well educated in politics, the politics our education system has taught. Their political views were bolstered by Obama's election and the reaction to it. Nobel peace prize, hysteria in the streets and white guilt flowing it was clear that America finally got it, the young socialist were cozy in the womb of government security. Everything was just how it was supposed to be and BAM, the Trumpster. The future of America had been sold out, internet videos of people crying threatening to kill themselves which has since morphed in to thinking others should die. Others should be beaten down for their racist, greedy and unfair political outlook. Others have stolen their very lives they were promised, stolen their humanity and the guarantees that came with it. "Free" college, "free" homes and "free" healthcare are now slipping away, the system ceased apologizing and self motivation is rearing its ugly head, scares the shiat out of those who've been raised to believe there are no repercussions for failing to plan.

I was a SD fan. I will still watch them. However, after what Jones did I got on line and bought a Dallas flag to fly outside my home. Call it symbolic. America has a history, a culture, and a past. These people who want to destroy our heritage as a country yet defend  their cultural histories are a joke. Period. I am not nor can I be an LA Chargers fan of San Diego. I hate everything about LA, their elected officials positions on matters, their agendas and everything else. While I struggle with my addiction to the bolts I am turning a new page in life. Dallas baby. A team owner who is close to my heart and my beliefs. Something I can believe in. I was offered tickets to the Chargers/chiefs game. I declined. I won't go to any game. I won't waste my money supporting this crap. I cancelled my NFL package on Directv. I will not buy any NFL stuff this season, minus the Dallas flag. And the Steelers solo bird who came out...I will watch you. America does not need the NFL, the NFL needs America. Sadly, they think they can spit in the face of the very Country that makes them Millionaires. Almost every family who are American vested have family who fought for our lives. We won't forget our elders, our kin, our blood. Or the disrespect these players show.

Question: Why is it always so hot at an LA Chargers game?

Answer: Because they have no fans.
