Updated with new pics New 5 seat build. Ground up.

Recommended Posts

This is a clean slate new design 5 seat car. It is a little longer than our previous 5 seater. It's 125" compared to our previous 120" wheelbase. It has higher sides to raise the roof line. Radiused roof.

We raised the top A arm mount to make for a taller upright.

The most noticeable difference is the use of boxed construction throughout. It has a boxed pivot tube, all boxed front bulkhead, boxed rear trailing arms, and boxed front AArms.

The box pivot tube opens up a lot of options on design besides being very strong. It is a little heavy. The tabs already have stepped weld washers installed to eliminate that wear point.

It gets an Albins sequential and a TT LS something.

I haven't figured out how many feet. It is lots of weld. I still have a lot to do on the bulkhead. Then comes all the arms. Lots of table time

DO you try to mig the areas that you can't get your torch into?

Very Nice Alex I'll be watching this one closely.

How does the cost and weight compare to Moly tube given the additional complexity.

Are you using Tabzone components or did you draw it all up?

I drew it all up. It is proven geometry used in all our cars. This is just all boxed instead of just plates and tubes.  It's all 4130 sheet.

+1 For Bend-tech, always nice to see the plan and then the results. That trailing arm bulkhead is wicked, if I had to do semi trailing that is the way to go. I love building.... finishing? (wires/plumbing/etc.) not so much.

Getting some tube bent up and welded up.

The mid rail is one piece 19ft long 5 bends 3 rotations. No seams from the front bumper to the rear bumper. 20180524_190021.thumb.jpg.8fe382caafae5a4dd4feb9287f6a7ce3.jpg

Radius roof line. We radiused the "C" pillar also. 20180528_162100.thumb.jpg.37e03fbf6ca9cf1b76e268f1b3686922.jpg20180528_162110.thumb.jpg.e69f3b71ea1bc77127138cfa8ff930c3.jpg20180528_162052.thumb.jpg.c827d9c1894586449fb33f2255a96fe6.jpg20180528_162040.thumb.jpg.48bd9d099ebda82bb07a26ffa70a0980.jpg

Nice!!! I like the windshield V, how it connects to the bulkhead and then to the center rails. Not just 'windshield dressing'.

Looking good - well thought out bracing and triangulation - tons of work went into it so far - how many hours do you estimate?

Thank you.

We like every tube to be there for a structural reason. We design it so all loads are distributed to another tube. The front end loads get tranfered all the way to the rear shock towers thru the roof X brace. The inverted windshield V is more than just an intrusion bar, it continues the load transfer from the floor and bulkhead up to the roof line. We try to eliminate any deflection loads on any tube. We have repaired many different types of chassis failures on many different chassis and are always looking at ways to eliminate them without added undue weight.

Thank you. We have over 100 hrs into the chassis so far. Majority of the tubes are done with the exception of the rear after the tranny arrives. The bulkheads eat up a lot of hours but they are super strong and make fixturing accurate and repeatable. Just tons of welding.
