Recommended Posts

REALLY!!!!  “”For our students””.......  100% self-serving unions.  78% of that goes to salaries and retirement funds .  Fourth graders have a 22% efficiency rate.......  we deserve a raise!! WOW!!!!

They always cry "it's for the children".

Work less then 8 hours a day pushing a socialist agenda for half the year and refuse to do anything extra without a stipend. STFU!

I see the job teachers do with my kids and feel they deserve a raise. Yes their system is flawed but teaching kids is no joke. I have plenty of teacher friends and their dedication to their job really shows. They put in plenty of extra hours and are very underpaid.

Nobody becomes a teacher to get wealthy or be well off. It’s a passion job for sure.

Get back to teaching....instead of socially and politically programming kids with a liberal agenda and I'll start caring again.

Yes it is a tough life, what with their fully funded (by us) benefits, pensions, summers off, numerous vacation days, and half days for teacher collaboration. I don't know how they make it...

Agree - Teachers play a very important role in developing our children and are critical to successfully creating educated responsible adults.  I hear all the stories from my teaching friends and there are horror stories of the crap they have to deal with - it's a lot harder job than some seem to think.  I absolutely think they deserve more money.

Part of the problem is the Teachers Union and how teachers are compensated.  Like all professions - there are bad apples.  Teachers should be paid relative to their performance and ability.  Bad teachers should be weeded out.  The Unions make this impossible.

I don't agree with them going on strike.

They are paid very well when you factor in how little they work.

Interesting comments. Has anyone ever tried to keep 28 to 38 students under control in a class room?  Without using force or adult language?  What if your kid needed a nurse and there isn’t one at the school.  Have any of you ever had a 12 yr old cuss you out and you can’t do anything about it?

How many of you get reprimanded on a website  and go total  postal?  And we’re adults

Robert - You couldn't pay me enough to deal with that and if I was paid enough...……….I'd get fired.  I couldn't handle it - some young punk kid cursing me out or physically confronting me - I'd screw up.

You think they don’t grade papers at home? Prep curriculum before class? Parent teacher conferences? Dealing with parents that feel they don’t do shit? Your wife must not be a teacher. They don’t get paid for being off in the summer. They can take less monthly to still collect a check in the summer.

Did you make a difference in any of their life’s? Or did you show up and just do the bare minimum required for that day? How’s your pension? How was your overtime? Easy to throw stones. Very hard to reflect.

Ok...a little off topic but using it as a comparison...

Military.  They don't make shit AND...the military just did away with pension retirement and reduction in medical benefits until your 60.

Under the "old"pension style retirement, you only got a percentage of your "base" pay, not all the other benefits or average of annual income.  I can tell you, it's SIGNIFICANTLY lower.

SO...when I hear about how hard it is to be a teacher and how they want more money to buy class supplies and such...I call BS.  It's a choice.

And what about Fire Fighters and Police?  What about their pay, benefits and retirement?  All of these are being reduced.  What makes you think teachers are the exception?

They have time during thier work day to do any prep or grading.  Your kid isn't at school 8 hours. The school goes to minimum days during teach parent conferences. Once a month they have minimum days so they can have meetings or prep class work. Most don't take a shit without wanting a stipend. Don't believe the bullshit you hear.

And they know if shit went down there would be hell to pay.  It’s a bit of a respect thing.  There is no respect in school for the teachers.

My kid goes from 8-3. That’s 7 hours. So at a minimum they are there 30 minutes early and 30 minutes after. Sounds close enough to 8 for me. I’m only basing my opinion off what I see with actual teachers and what I see the stuff my kid learns.
