Can I Vent?!?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Maybe we can make this a place to vent and we can make each other feel better. Did You get pulled over today and get a ticket?  Let’s hear about it. Did your wife think it was ok to spend all your money? Let’s hear about it.  Did the blm treat you like you’re some kind of criminal? (SP??’) let’s hear about it.

Till then here I go...

First of all, I’d like to state that I take full responsibility. For all of it. No matter which issue I am complaining about i understand there is something I could have done to make the outcome different and to be more in my favor. Maybe I didn’t communicate properly. Or my ignorance caused me to not inspect the product the way I should have. But that doesn’t change the fact that I’m pretty freakin pissed off at the moment. Yes, better to be pissed off than pissed on.  ...unless you’re R.Kelly...    But what’s up with Shop Owners? Is the right way to do business DEAD??? Is customer service just a thing of the past? Something no on cares about anymore I guess.

I’ve been dealing with an issue of this cracked rim for probably 3 months. I haven’t been able to take the car out and have had to ride instead of drive which is fine, but it kind of defeats the purpose of spending money on a car. First I took the rim to US Wheel and repair. The guy must be the owners son who I dealt with, but he’s a total stoner space cadet. Which is fine unless you’re trying to run a business. Said he’d be able to fix it no problem and to give him a week. Cool. After a week and half didn’t hear anything so I call. Nope, still has not even started on it. Long story, after 2 months, and bugging him, my wheel is cut up, jacked up and he can’t fix a 1.5” crack.

Ok. All good. I guess I’ll just buy a wide 5 setup and get some new rims. I go to an unnamed shop in santee (at this point I’d like to keep them nameless because I haven’t addressed the situation with them) and order the hubs and bearings for a spindle Mount on a Thursday. Gimme till Monday and I’ll have it all he says. I’m stoked because he says he even has an almost new set of rims he will sell. Things are looking up.   2 weeks later I get a call. I go to pick it up and they don’t have everything. Still all good, I’ll run around and get the bearings and studs.  They pressed them in for free which was nice.  He puts the rims in the back of my truck and I pay without inspecting them.  After messing with that for several hours and a nice chunk of change I get home and start working on my car. I grab my “basically new” rimsand they look pretty dirty as they were in the shop for a little bit and after trying to clean them up, I realize they’re just not just dirty they’re thrashed. And the sticker on them says 7-2013. Sweet, my “basically new” rims are 6 years old. Ok I can make them look good, Powder coat them. All good.

Here’s where I finally loose it.. I start to put my new parts on and nothing fits. Not the same setup, Not the same size bearings and Nothing will fit on my car. The inside circumference on the new bearing is too small for my spindle. He knew because he said the old bearings weren’t the same fit inside the new hubs. But never was it explained that they wouldn’t fit on the spindle.  Now what? Besides saying a few choice words that I’m not proud of.. besides wanting to throw a drywall missle👊🏽.

So I guess I’m not going to make it out to glamis tomorrow with the group for the last trip of the year. Awesome.   I guess I’m already in to this plenty of hundos and need to spend more. Typical. Where does it end? Don’t answer that. I know about this sport.

so I’m pretty lax about my dealings with people and shops. My hot rod is in the shop and it’s been there untouched for a month also. Totally fine. I already have anger issues and I do my best to keep it cool. I don’t want to be a jerk. Not who I want to be. I wish I was better at using my words. But at what point does it just get old? Something as stupid as this.

Again, in the end, I really do take responsibility. I should have brought in my original rim and bearings in to the shop so they were able to see what it needed to be. I should have better inspected the new rims before buying instead of taking his word for it. But I didn’t. Lesson learned. I just wish I could leave a shop and feel really good about a transaction. I know there is a lot of great shops and business owners and I appreciate them. Everyone else... 🤷🏽‍♂️

I feel better. Thanks. Not a lot. But a little bit.

Wow! Sorry to hear about all of your troubles!

Yeah, it seems like you're a little too trusting for 2019. I just assume everyone from the kid at the auto parts store to the guy taking my fast food order is incompetent. That way it keeps my unpleasant surprises at a lower level. You still can't guard against every form of idiocy, but I bring my original parts to the auto parts store to verify they're identical (most times they don't match, even when the kid swears there's only one style of whatever.)

When I go through the drive through, I check the order to verify it's right before I drive away. It's amazing how many different ways they can mess up even the simplest order. I went and looked at a trailer today and the seller left out a TON of damage. Even though I'm pretty handy with tools, that was a LOT more of a project than I wanted to tackle.

One of the concepts I learned in the Navy was trust, but verify. Regardless of what the seller tells you, check it all out for yourself. Once you walk away, you really don't have any sort of warranty. Whether it's an engine, a sand rail, a trailer or whatever, if you didn't check it out thoroughly and you missed some sort of damage and you figure it out weeks later, it's on the buyer.

At least you have a healthy attitude about it. Maybe you can talk to the shop owner and he can help you get the right bearings, etc.

Sorry, did you try some other shops in town for the right parts to fit your spindles? Can you run a cheap set of steelie spindle wheels for the weekend?

I like that saying.  I need to verify a lot more. Might save me some troubles.

Bones I know how you’re feeling and stand your ground !,it seems like the last 20 years of shops messing up and screwing my stuff up that I’m almost hesitant to take it to shops that are fly by night ... It seems like the only way to get your money back out of that crappy situation is to let other people know and word-of-mouth can hurt these crap  shops!.....

That’s why I had to call out USWheel. But with the other shop I feel like it’s my fault for assuming it would be right.

I definitely feel better knowing I’m not the only one that feels this way at times.

Regarding your old wheels. Contact Romero’s Wheel Polishing. They are on Greenfield near Pioneer.

They use to repair & polish all my Centerline race wheels. It’s been probably 8-10 years since I last used them. But they were always great to work with. Plus they fixed some bent up, wheels that I was not sure could be fixed.

Might be worth asking what they think and if they can fix your wheels.

Oh yea, I just remembered a wheel shop that can also potentially help. American Factory Wheel in the Mission Gorge Rd area of the 8. Give them a shout as well if needed.

I ordered a uber rare car audio amplifier. Only comes around every 4-5 years. Paid top dollar for it. Pristine condition in the photos.

Guy dropped it off at the USPS store for them to pack it. One layer of bubble wrap in a box twice the size as the amp. Amp must have busted through the box at one point because it had repair tape all over it. All four corners bent and broken and it sounds like a bag of bolts inside the amp. I sure wish people would do their fricken job.

That sucks!  I let a guy borrow my ama motor (esr 250r) for atv supercross in los angeles once. He shipped it back to me, swears it was crated,  but it showed up at my shop in a cheap single ply cardboard box (after it went missing for two weeks). Both main cases were smashed (right when new cases became real hard to find). Guy didnt insure it and didnt fix (dont think he even said thanks for bailing him out) UPS refused to cover anything. That was about a 1k$ screw job.

Bones, you are guilty of one thing only. You are living in the past or in another place. California is not like that. You cannot do business on a handshake unless it is with someone you know well, or you can follow up with in ways that will hurt their business, like a member on here. Even then it is iffy.

I learned quickly that in California, if you cannot turn it off, or take it away, people won't pay for it. That attitude goes for buying or selling. Business' know that with 19+ million people here, there is always someone to screw right around the corner, and if the owner is the sort that loves to eff* someone in the name of profit, they will not be hurt by maximizing their margin at your expense. Other parts of the nation are following suit in this behavior.

Yes, we have removed public shaming for bad behavior. And that is never a good thing.  If anyone has any doubt, I can remove that with just two words. Shock Therapy.

Exactly!

I've been ranting about this creeping socialism for quite a few years now, To me, it seems to have started with political correctness, which was their way of renaming everything and attaching a stigma to more things/people while acting superior and smilingly acting like changing the name magically made it all better.

Then somehow it became the norm to blame everyone else for what happened, from their parents to the owner of the parked car they hit to their boss who stresses them out by expecting them to act like they're not total screwups. For the past couple of yrs I've been holding people's feet to the fire. Whether it's some libtard on FB or the inexperienced kid at the store. By the time I'm done with them they've either learned something or their supervisor is aware of the depths of their employee's ignorance. By the same token, I've tracked down supervisors to tell them that I received excellent service from one of their employees. I think it's only fair and rewarding good service hopefully makes the other employees see what's possible.

A lot of times my "ends of the world" end up being a fairly simple task.  Focus on what's "really" wrong and fix it.  Sounds like Nikal and il-Legit gave you a good lead.

Clear Communication is so key these days.

Not only do you have to spend the time to list out in detail the specifics of what you want or need, you need to test their understanding of your request and then have them outline how they will full-fill it.

That is when you find their version of the end product might not match what your expectations of their service should include.

Metro Honda in Montclair has provided stellar service during the initial sale and post sale, normal service maintenance and even addressing a recall. But yesterday my normal service advisor was on his day off, his peer got me my kets and closed out the paperwork. When I asked him to review the work done, address the questions we had initially asked, etc.....He pointed to the service report and said that everything was listed on that paper, we could read it. He grabbed my keys, handed them over and said have a great day. I can read the report, i know what the issues fixed were as the day before my normal SA had reviewed it with me to my satisfaction. What if my wife was picking up the vehicle? or my son, etc. I expect a full recount of what was done, what might be felt different, etc to the person getting the keys. Explain in terms they can understand and send them off confident in the work performed.

That is how you earn repeat clients. I have not written off the dealership, as they are one of the best I have used in the past 15 years now on my 3rd Honda Vehicle. I will in a few, give a call to their Service Department manager on how that Advisor closed out my repair work. His day might no be so good this afternoon, hope he finds reading the paper is better suited for his break times.

Customer Service is A-Z, there are no short cuts.

For those of you who recall my 4 month long battle with the DMV to get my REAL ID, there were several trips where I got there with what I was told to bring by the DMV person on the previous trip, only to be told there was even MORE paper work that I would need to get. Each person I spoke to had a different idea of what was needed, and when I was given an appointment to save time, they claimed I didn't have an appointment and had to wait as long as those without appointments.

The CA DMV is the one place where you can find it all: indifference, incompetence, lousy communication or no communication, people with no work ethic, people just punching the time clock, mindless drones going through the motions with no clue what the reason is for anything, an inability to understand questions, an inability to answer questions, an inability to even give a shit.

I'm convinced that the DMV is the state's bureaucratic dumping ground for all employees who are worthless, but they can't fire them. So they inflict them on the public.

I once had a dispute with GM over a broken harness. The service writer admitted to me that the connector had to have been broken by a dealer tech when they replaced my engine, but GM had to pay to get it replaced and they wouldn't pay a different dealership to repair the first dealership's mistake. I called the 800 number and a few days later a young girl told me she denied my warranty claim.

I asked her what basis she had for denying the claim and she said, "Because that's what I decided." I asked her if she was ever a mechanic. "No." Was she ever a service writer? "No." Do you have any training on diesel trucks?" No." Then how did you get this job?" "I was hired for it." "What makes you qualified ?" That's my decision, and it's final." Since she wasn't going to budge, I decided to exact revenge.

"Are you the retarded niece of one of the executives?" "No."

"How many guys did you have to blow to get this job?" "I'm going to remind you that this conversation is being recorded. Insulting me will not do you any good." "Yes, I know that, but I'm honestly trying to figure out how you got this job you are clearly not qualified for. Make sure the upper level executives listen closely to this tape, because it will clearly show them why Toyota is kicking their ass in new car sales and service."

Then she lies to me and says the service writer told her that I broke the connector. I'm not going to allow her ot get away with lying, so I did a 3 way call. She said it wasn't necessary, but oh yes, it was! I got the service writer on the other line and told him we were on a 3 way call. I asked him what he told her about the connector. "I told her a dealer tech had to have done it." "She told me that you said I broke it." "No, that is absolutely not what I said!"

Now she starts calling HIM a liar, and finally backs off to, "From my recollection, that's what you told me." I finished off the call with, "As soon as Toyota starts selling diesel trucks, you guys are going out of business. Nobody will buy another truck from you, and GM will go out of business, because your outrageous profit margin on trucks is the only thing keeping you afloat!"  I felt a little better after that...

Bones I'm not able to give you any technical comments on your problem, but what I recommend is trying to quickly sell the rims so you can get this off your mind and move forward.

I have made mistakes in this hobby that have wasted time and cost me money.  Last night I realized I made a major mistake with tires and wheels.  So now I have springs, shocks, tires and wheels to sell.  I'm going to take the advice I'm giving you and start placing some ads so I can feel good when I get some money back.

And when we get rid of the things that caused us grief and aggravation, and get back to the dunes or the desert, we can refresh our minds.  We all have to realize that this sport has ups and downs and failures built into it, and we just have to keep on truckin to enjoy the outdoor moments.
