I have had 2 cups of coffee in my entire life but my daughter and son in law enjoyed touring the coffee plantation there. There were a lot of different coffees for them to taste.

Of course as mentioned Waimea canyon is an absolute must to see.

Took a snorkeling 1/2 day trip to the Naapali Coast. Really awesome! Highly recommend that. And then a helicopter ride.  Peace

I know this is now a Kauai thread but just in case someone sees this and is going to Maui. I have a client going next week and just sent him this.

My brother in law lived on Maui and gave us some great pointers when we were there. Wife and I have snorkeled a fair amount and hands down the neatest spot ever was when we did a 70 mile boat / snorkel trip around Lanai.  They stop a few different places. Lanai is good sized island approx. 10 miles out from Maui. The neat snorkel spot was over on the west side of Lanai near the south. It was a rock that jutted out of the water well away from the shore of the island. Our guide dove down to attach the rope to a hook down in the rocks to hold the boat. Incredible spot with the amount of fish and how deep you can see. Road to Hana is really neat.  Once near Hana we followed an arrow directional sign and found some locals cooking food for a big party. They welcomed us in and we bought our meals. Beautiful beach going both ways and very secluded. (This part of the island gets a lot of rain and is very green and dense)  Also the same day and that part of the island we did the couple mile hike to Wailua falls http://liveinhawaiinow.com/wailua-falls-maui/ . Bring rain shoes or plan on your tennis shoes getting ruined. It will most likely rain.  Beautiful hike that takes you through some very dense bamboo forest.  Lots of neat snorkel spots in Maui. We did 8 spots total including the Lanai trip.  Ono tacos and hula pie at https://www.leilanis.com/ are an absolute must! https://www.leilanis.com/  As mentioned the lavender farm is neat to visit. https://www.aliikulalavender.com/#/  This is where the Jackson Chameleons are in the plants. Locals go up there to find them and take home as pets. https://www.tripadvisor.com/LocationPhotoDirectLink-g60635-d2208663-i48208990-Maui_Country_Farm_Tours-Makawao_Maui_Hawaii.html The day we went to the Lavender farm we also visited Maui Wine. Beautiful property with some incredible huge old trees. https://www.google.com/maps/uv?hl=en&pb=!1s0x7954c493f698c0e3%3A0x94e712fe1aa916b3!2m22!2m2!1i80!2i80!3m1!2i20!16m16!1b1!2m2!1m1!1e1!2m2!1m1!1e3!2m2!1m1!1e5!2m2!1m1!1e4!2m2!1m1!1e6!3m1!7e115!4shttps%3A%2F%2Flh5.googleusercontent.com%2Fp%2FAF1QipOWDTrfESRvCE88dTLf7QayTXtZbwYxweT_iHzc%3Dw300-h200-k-no!5smaui%20wine%20tasting%20-%20Google%20Search!15sCAQ&imagekey=!1e10!2sAF1QipOWDTrfESRvCE88dTLf7QayTXtZbwYxweT_iHzc&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjrzaCj9aPjAhWXuZ4KHWAbCxoQoiowCnoECA0QBg Other restaraunts he told us about. https://www.pollismexicanrestaurant.com/  We ate at Pollis and it was very good. https://www.mamasfishhouse.com/ Mamas is the place I said we should have stopped at at the end of the road to Hana day. Supposed to be excellent for dinner. https://www.cafeoleirestaurants.com/ We did not eat at Cafe Ole but brother in law  said it was excellent for lunch. Said he ate there quite often when he lived on the island.

The Bull Shed is a must for a cheap and delicious big prime rib dinner! Get there early or wait have a drink while enjoying the views.

Take the short hike down Opaekaa Falls. Not a tough hike and the view of the falls from the bottom is breathtaking. You can also stand at the top of the falls with a 5 min walk from the parking area.

Glass sand beach is ok, but to the left of it when looking at the ocean is neat. It used to be a landfill and everything that was iron is still there (engine blocks ect..) and the colors in the metal is interesting from the salt water.

If you get a rental car get a Jeep. There is a trail that starts in the Wailua homesteads (Kuamo’o Rd) that will take you several miles into the interior of the island. The trail leads you through the gates that held the Jurassic Park sign. The sign is no longer there, just the wooden poles that held it. Continue down the trail to a hidden waterfall. Also some stream crossings on the trail that can get deep if it is raining.

Lastly, if you can get to the north shore, kayak or stand up paddle the Hanalei river out to Hanalei Bay.

By the way. Costco by far has the cheapest car rental rates. When I was there in 2015, I got a 4 door Jeep for under $300 for 7 days.

I've been doing Kauai for 20 years. Met Laird hamilton a couple of years ago. We stay in PoiPu right across from the Beach House. I'll be there from 8/8-8/22, so the countdown is ON! We usually always go Christmas - New Years and I NEVER go for less than 2 weeks. A couple of years we've done 3 weeks straight.

Know that place like the back of my hand by now.

Have fun!
