Is the wheeling as cool as Moab? Or is it more scenic?

Regular Moab? More scenic, but there’s some challenges if you look for them. Area BFE? Sedona is a little beeyotch. :bigrin

Word to the wise: keep the Mrs away from downtown Sedona if she’s a shopper... Buddy’s wife dropped quite a bit down there...

Yes, Sedona is definitely a tourist trap. Everything costs more. Did you go to the McDonalds? Its a big hit with tourists to get a picture out by the sign since its the only McD's with NO golden arches!

Tent camped at Tuthill County Park. Great campground about 45 min (and more importantly: 2000’ higher) away. Lots of forest roads up here to explore as well

The lava tubes are cool. there are some over by the Cinders OHV area, just South of Sunset Crater NM park, but they are closed off to the public now (at least last time I was there). My first trip to the cinders back in H.S., we went on a night ride with a guy who knew the back way to them and went exploring inside one. Had ice on the walls in part of it.

Did you end up driving the XJ, or tow it?

Towed it. Lost two tires and discovered bubbles on a third on 2 year old tires because of your shitty freeways paved with lava. :bigrin

Bought a set of 225/75R15 E tires up here for some bucks... Oh well.

Went up Cinders way today. Amazing views and had a thunderstorm hit while we were up on the rim of the double crater. Little unnerving (and fun)  having trees get struck right in front of you and burst into flames (was giving GPS coords to FS guys).

Yessir. Did it a couple of times and Schnebly Hill Rd once. Wish we had spent more time exploring flagstaff area, as there were lots of cool things to see up there.

That's good to know about Tuthill County Park.  I saved their website just now and I'm going to use it as well.  I'm finding that the Flagstaff hotels have very high prices on the weekends.
