Tool Kit contents?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Who has a tool kit on your buggy and what do you have in it? I'm starting to put together a set of tools that will stay on the car. I'm looking for ideas of things I haven't thought of or other tools that might be useful for a "bush fix".

I tried searching for a thread about this, but didn't have any luck. If I missed it, please let me know, I'll go check it out.

Tow strap and a friends car to attach it to. Amazing how many people don't have either.

Fuses

Zip ties

Duct tape not a whole roll but a good amount wrapped around another tool.

Wire & connectors

Relays

A BF crescent wrench and screw driver

Ratchet strap

Small Slim air compressor

Allen wrenches if your car has them.

And a roll up set of wrenches

A few other things I'm forgetting

The only tools you need are WD-40 and Duct Tape.

The WD-40 is for things that aren't moving, but need to move.

The Duct Tape is for things that are moving, but you don't want them to move.

Seriously, carry as many tools as you can.  I don't have a lot of room so I can't carry sockets, and many wrenches.  So I carry the tools that are more versatile, like vice grips, channel locks, and spanner wrenches.  I also carry a few screw drivers and allen wrenches, plus some spare parts like hiems, and a few nuts and bolts.  Some wire is good to have along with the WD-40 and Duct Tape.  Also not a bad idea to stick a $100 bill in there, just in case.

while not a tool, carry a First Aid kit.

I carry a tow tope, wire (both bailing and electrical), zip ties, duct tape, electrical tape, vice grips, sockets, end wrenches, screw drivers, a return spring, and a spark plug...…………..need to add a ratchet strap.

I am going to go thru it all this year and update some of the tools, pretty sure I have lost a few sockets and end wrenches over the years...……...

To add: good set of channel locks.  Not HF ones that are only good for bludgeoning things, real channel locks.

Subscribed. This is a good thread. I always like being prepared out there. I have a  backpack I’ll keep with me out there.

I seem to be the only one who carries a HF breaker bar and socket to get wheels off.  I also have a test light and a jumper to bypass relays.  Of course a good assortment of the stuff above

One other thing I do carry is a spare serpentine belt for the LS.  I also have a diagram taped to the inside of my wing trunk showing the direction and placement of the belt.

I don't know how you guys carry all that stuff.  I have a mid-engine 2 seater and very little room for storage.  Maybe I need to take out the passenger seat and put in a big tool box.  :bigrin

I'd like to see some of the creative ways that you guys store/carry stuff in your buggies.

Having a rail now, I'm back to square one putting together my tool kit.  The rails in our group pretty much have the same engine and rear set up.  We started carrying CVs and stuff to change them if needed.  It proved to be a good idea and we could change one out and be back duning in a beer or two.  We've been talking to get a set of common tools to help give us more dune time when situations come up.

I am looking for the thick neoprene foam that people use to organize their tool box drawers.  I can't find it anywhere.  I want to set up my wing trunk with it.

Lots of things I didn't think of. I have a lot of work to do to get my kit together! I agree with Flip-Flop, where/how do you guys store all these things?

Just reposting this with the text color changed, because I use the dark theme. Black text on the dark background = I can't see it! 🤓
