Finally Leaving Ca.!

Recommended Posts

Been a long time trying to leave the state. My business is going with me, and were going to start our next chapter in life.  Were so excited and will be living near a National forest around 7000 Ft. in Arizona.  We closed on the house this last Friday, and were making our first big load next Friday.  So Excited!  Very quite, peace full, No HOA's, just a perfect situation for us.  My wife and I loved this state, and retired from the Marine Corps here back in 2000.  We hate to see what has become of it, and where it seems to be going. Its a shame that politicians have made things so bad that the working man has to leave in order to retire some day. I look forward in making this last deployment  so to speak, to our final home. I cant tell you how much this move means to us. We worked so hard for it to finally happen.   We hope to eventually get back to the dunes sometime. My shoulder injury 3 years ago, really put a damper on things.

Welcome. I left California in 1972 to attend Pharmacy College at the University of Arizona. I miss the coast, but there was enough here keep me interested. Finding a soul mate and raising a family cemented it for me.

I hope you find the same peace I have.

WHERE??? Sounds like maybe Flagstaff area at that elevation. Congratulations! The wife and I just got back from a scouting mission and I am jacked about it. We have been looking for several years and checked out places as far away as South Carolina, all throughTexas, Idaho, Utah, Nevada and Arizona. Utah is still in the running but I think we found a slice of heaven in AZ.

The change in California is not a new issue and has been in progress a long time. My Dad left and took his family also, 63 years ago. Welcome to Arizona, you will love it.

Curious where you ended up, My wife and have been looking since we are retiring in about 4 years. We really like an area on the outskirts of Kingman (Lazy Y-U ranch), and we recently were visiting some friends in Cave Creek, and we really liked that area, but seems a little pricey.

We are looking for a couple acre lot, something in the 600K range, and not too far from our river house, which is in Topock.

The Golden Valley area nw of Kingman is also growing. 600K will get you a small ranch.

So sad to see so many people leaving  CA (have never lived nor will we)the wife and I went to LA not to long ago and the droves of homeless just living on the side of the off ramps and in around down town(staples center) its crazy...CA was a great get away for us like Balboa pier, Dana Point but even visiting its stupid expensive and the homeless and drug users are out of control not to mention the CA state run organizations are ridiculous rant over...... Welcome to AZ you will love it here the visitors to your 7000 ft elevation is the only pain in the ass you will have during the summer months may take a few years but more and more the valley dwellers are moving up in the summer months...

Love it there^^^   On the top of my list location wise..  Congrats to OP on getting out.. I'm a year out, but definitely out of Ca. as soon as is humanly possible.. Taking my business tax dollars elsewhere. This state will implode sooner than later.. The whole country should be on notice as to what happens when you go down the socialist demon-crat road. Just look at Kommiefornia.

A friend of mine just moved from CA to Payson and he loves it there. First thing he did was buy a gun.  DON~~~

Moving to AZ was the best decision we could have made.  Wish we had come sooner.  I only tell my conservative friends how great it is, I tell the few liberals I know that it is too redneck and hot so they stay in the mess that their party created.  Other than Glamis, I try not to even set foot there anymore.

Love that it can take as little as 10 minutes from the time you enter the store until you leave WITH the gun if you have a carry permit.

Happy Jack.   We found that many areas up there have HOA'S, but the area were in, is not. We wanted to be in an unincorporated area as well.   We liked Strawberry north of Payson, but there is mostly HOA'S, and smaller lots.  Our's is 1 acre, and our own well . Plenty of room for the shop trailer to run my manufacturing .  Yes, I know its going to be cold has hell for 2-3 months, but Ill dig the summers .  I grew up in Michigan, so its no big deal.   We have made several trips between Prescott, and Payson areas over the years.  I wish we could have done it after the last housing crash. The Prices have been rising steady up in the Payson area. Prices are projected to continue climbing into 2020.

Many things come into play, especially employment in that region.  Unless your self employed, the jobs are scarce.  If it wasn't for my military retirement, and having my own business, I couldn't have pulled off the loan.  Most people that live where I do, are 2nd homes/vacation homes.  I believe that there are only about 3 full timers by us.  We will have a crazy stocked pantry, freezer, etc. cause Payson is 50 miles out.  Payson has a Super Wallmart, Home Depot, and anything else we could need.  There's no schools up there, and little services available.
