Recon won't roll

Recommended Posts

On my '02 Honda TRX 2wd 250 Recon....w/the vertical motor.  We put it in the trailer, and then when we went to take it out...about 2-3 years ago, w/the brakes on, it would not roll.

It has a driveshaft, so I can't tell if the trans is locked (not likely), the U-joints in the shaft, the R%P, or possibly the brake shoe fused to the drum.

Soooooo, I am gonna start at the brakes, and start working towards the motor, looking for the cause.

Any ideas on where to look?

we had a Recon for a few years....bought for $850. What a great quad it was. Same as a TRX250 (as you already know) to you might want to put that in your title it may get more attention as lots of people have owned those.

I would suspect brakes for sure. They are pretty bullet proof. IIRC they have drum brake(s) on the rear??

Yep, drum....inside the differential housing.  The cable goes to an arm/lever, on a splined shaft, which rotates when you pull the lever.

The arm and shaft move back and forth, so they are not holding the shoe out...but, I am thinking that w/over a year w/the brake set, and the shoe in contact w/the drum....

i say start it up and punch it.  probably brakes locked up with moisture.  once free it will run perfect.
