Seeking solution:  Wanting to haul enough gas for Funco Gen4 LS on 16-18 ft. open aluminum trailer for a 3-4 day weekend. Would fill 25+gal Funco tank and avg. 8gal per ride 8 rides. Seeking solution like 50gal fuel cell on open trailer vs. eight 5 gallon cans which wont fit anyway. Problem is my Mercedes Sprinter RV can only handle 5000 lbs load with Funco (2700 lbs wet) so pushing tongue weight (500 capacity). And, also heard fuel cell on open trailer is not DOT legal. Thoughts please!?

Have you seen some of the open deck trailers where guys fab a tank that sits on top of the deck and right over the axles? They are the width of the deck and usually 2-3 feet in the direction of trailer length and only like 6-8” tall. Kind of looks like a large speed bump sitting over the axles on top of the deck.

Smart idea, that could work thanks have not seen such a setup. Trying to keep 17' rear wheels on during transport which puts LS/tranny weight slightly behind the back wheel well.  Weight up front might even that out.

I have been researching this exact thing for the last 3-4 months. I am going to have Dave's gas tanks in Phoenix weld me up a steel tank to sit on top of my 18' aluminum flatbed trailer. It will be 30" wide by 65" long and 10" tall. 85 gallons. Under $1k to purchase the tank. I already have the pump. I will place it over the axles on the deck. Also going to wire it a little different. Going to make a 25' positive and negative wire with alligator clips to run the pump off of the battery in the buggy vs the trailer or moho. Just put a switch on it and turn off when the tanks are full in the Gen 4. (I watch a site tube at the tank and fill it to the brim each time). Mileage in the buggy is not as good with flex fuel. I have been watching FB marketplace and CL for a used tank out there and actually have found a couple that would almost work. Found an aluminum one in Florida but shipping would be $220 dollars.

I have a 110 gallon tank on top of my flatbed.  It is a DOT tank and have never had issues with it.  It does take some room.  If I were to do it again, I would do it like onanysunday described. and have it be low between the fenders.

I’m going to be getting one made to sit under my Aluma deck over trailer. Not sure how many gallons it’ll end up being. It’ll fill & dispense from drivers side (off camp side). Right now balm e is the biggest issue. It needs to be pretty close to the axles to keep the trailer balanced.

do they make tanks for toy hauler applications that will fit under the trailer that can go either between the axles or maybe in front of the forward axle?  EDIT: I see pennywise is doing just that...\

I'm using a fleet fuel service now and they loaned me an aluminum 100 aux fuel tank for the bed of my truck. They had 4 or 5 more. They also have 25 100 gallon steel tanks. The tanks are all in decent condition. They upgraded to a different style tank for their new trucks.

I can ask what they'd sell for in anyone is interested.

This is the only pic I have. I can measure it when my son gets back from Phoenix and Lake Havasu tomorrow evening.

find some old alum boat tanks, wire up a holley fuel pump and SEND IT

Example https://orangecounty.craigslist.org/bpo/d/stanton-boat-gas-tank/7486738681.html

My box trailer is setup this way, tank mounted under rear deck/axle area.

This is a great idea. Heard that deck overs are the best if we want to keep paddles on. Putting tank above or below between axles is smart for balance. Need to buy trailer first that just went up about $4k. All good worth it in the end. :)

I added an S4 to my car with extra bracing. Also a lot of extra steel in the trailing arms with 934s. Been wanting to weigh my car but guessing 2350-2400.
