At what age would you put a helmet on

We put our kid in a car seat with this helmet on. Its light like a bicycle helmet but looks like a motocross helmet and works well with goggles. He is in the car seat and the sides of the seat kind of wrap around him to keep him more secure. The car seat also has the small harness built into it to hold him in there.
