  4. Hey guys! seems like my never ending quest for a car continues indefinitely. Looking at a car with an S4S behind a twin turbo redline Northstar. Just wondering what a freshing costs on such a car. Trans was refreshened 20hrs ago by wright. Seller has reciepts from previous shop that “pulled and took to wright”but the cost was lumped in on an invoice with a large maintence overhaul. Seller doesnt have physical wright invoice. I read some people love the trans, others hate them

    Honda 3.5 stored 3 years

Lots of good info, here is a trick i also learned from firing up sitting projects. You may not need to service injectors, u can pull the line from the fuel pump and using a plastic syringe pump marvel mystery oil or mix up a gallon or so of 40:1 two stroke fuel and prime the fuel system. Injectors can loosen up without a problem. Unplug every coil and pull the spark plugs, turn the engine over until u can see gas vaper being forced out of the cylinder via the spark plug hole. Let the engine sit for an hour, and now do an oil change. U want to make sure any fuel from priming the engine is now leaving in the old Oil. Now with fresh oil leave the spark plugs out, coils still disconnected and now disconnect the injectors and pull power from fuel pump, turn engine over until oil pressure gauge shows pressure. Hook everything back up and fire her for real. You now have primed the oil system and injectors and shouldnt hurt anything in the process

How To Buy a Funco. Help a Newbie Out.

The day has finally come to add a mini van er.... a Funco to the fleet. With the wife wishing to do more "back seat duning" than riding her own ATV and kids in the future some day I think the time is right to add a sand rail to the family. I am set on getting a Funco. We were able to dune with a group that had a fleet of Gen 3 Big 5's and they seemed to fit us the best a long with desired ride. The wife like's the ease of getting in and out and the potential to stick 3 people in the back. Where I am seeking help is what would you recommend to a Newbie who is getting into the game? What did you wish you knew when you bought one? I am pretty set on finding a 2D car with a Subie 2.5. Is there anything else you liked? My Price Range is about 23k and it seems that should be an obtainable number for a good quality rig. I have been told to check all hiems obviously and then I was told the rear pivot support area's are known for cracking and so to keep an eye on that as well. Obviously keep an eye on the CV boots, check for slot and also that the axle will pivot back and forth within the cv. I hear the front racks like to crack away from the frame (witnessed it myself) and so to check that area. just looking for input from you all. Thanks!

    Wtb wrecked VW Sandrail

Hey guys!! what i am looking for is either a cheap vw rail or one that has been rolled. Long story short I have an old johnny speed and chrome frame that has been in the family since the 60’s and what i need is the “torsion back” of a rail to get this one going. It had a corvair torsion in it and that was cut out. Now I just need a rail to get this old classic back in the dunes for more family memories. i do not care irs or swing axle, i would just like a complete rail as a donor. Located in anaheim, dont mind traveling

    Making a Motor Live

DING DING....if you have a Rat empting the sump you have a problem with drain back somewhere. Only one I have ever seen had rollock disc crap impeding the oiling holes at the mains, cam galley and slug in the cylinder heads. It was an older road race 427 that the owner swore by Pennzoil..... WHAT WAS WAX WILL ALWAYS RETURN TO WAX. I have been noticing on some of the new Power Strokes and Duramax's the oil temp gauge is a dummy gauge.....you can have a 30 degree swing in temp and it does not move.... you can only tell the difference through the digital display. I know when I was building a lot of the aircooled porsche and vw stuff we use to say for every 10 degrees over 275 on a race car for an extended period was at least a weekend at the track. Once we had multiple coolers and a car down to a max of 275 for oil temp those engines would double in life expectancy. Had multiple engines running 2 seasons at competition level power. and like J Alper says these motors on tear down were so much happier!!! I think it is a testament to the fact that the oil in your engine is not just lubrication but ALSO a secondary cooling system....

Yes. I have a 30 year old quad.

give me a banshee or a 250r in the dunes any day of the week! Nothing like it. personally if you are looking for "more" Shearer SB inframes are IMHO the best pipes out there on stock ported cylinders all the way up to cubs and cheetahs. I have a set of Shearer Small bores that have worked on everything from stock ported cylinders, to now being behind a 400 cheetah. fit, form, looks, sound, power... I love them. Having gone from a t5 to shearers on the same stock cylinder motor I felt i lost nothing in the middle and gained a ton of over-rev. IF you love to live on the pipe (the only way to ride a banshee) then Small bore shearers will work great for you. Toomey's and fatty's were always good on stock, stock cylinder bikes, but the dyno did not lie back in the day, ported bikes normally saw noticeable gains when switching to CPI, Shearer, etc. CPI is a good company, I have a big bore 250r pipe from them that i enjoy but Shearer is a local in Hesperia and a great dude for the industry.

    Possible Broken Crankshaft

of all the actual trucks I have flogged on the dyno with EFI LIVE and double stacking chips... sure at about 800hp....your close....sled trucks will fail at 650-700... but a bone stocker??? I have never heard of a stock one cracking a rod... like that... have you owned this the trucks whole life? I mean people get *that truck* all the time, but first I have ever heard about with a Dmax and I use to tune these things for a living. Sorry for your loss.

    Oc Truck Suspension Shops

My shop I work at has been open 43 years and does suspension work as well. Our name is Ambassador Automotive in Anaheim 714-970-2525 My concern is I know I can make the front ride better... the rear.......it gets funky quick. Sure we can add a set of Deaver progressives that bolt in place and throw a set of Fox IFP 2.0's in the rear... the ride is going to get better but your towing capacity will be affected and deaver STRAIGHT LISTS *no towing* on their springs... So that Idea doesnt work. I would probably start by replacing the stock shocks with a set of 5100 Bilstiens in the rear or the IFP Fox's again. for front I would lean towards Fox (I can get king) I am Fox partial from back in the ATV industry, they have great reliability their seals are much less prone to leaking and the valving on the FOX for the Toyota's is spot on.... So if your wife is super sensitive the rear may still be a concern, but I know without a doubt you will love the front. Every Toyota I have put them on is a night and day difference. No matter where you go (Camburg is awesome! great place) I would recommend doing the upper control arm at that time. If you are going to a dedicated coil over in the front and the 3 inch lift version is the same price as the slip ins, do the arm, you get another inch of suspension travel, the truck rides plush (ride will be the same for either LT or standard shock) and you will be most likely DONE with the suspension on that truck for the lifetime of your ownership. Good luck!

    New To Me Cr500

85 has been proven to have the most horsepower and that number jumps around by who and what they are, rebuilds in the .20 field with no porting have gone 65hp across 500riders. I LOVE 500's... still my favorite 2 stroke ever! I cant wait to get an AF again, or just purchase another! my current 500 gained some weight and a wheel.... my number one recommendation is if you get it, by a carb kit, go through it, get a fresh plug, most of the 500's i have bought or worked on for clients are maintained IN HORRIBLE FASHION, old plugs, pig rich, all add to a bike that IS A JERK to start, runs horribly, doesnt clear out, and is no fun.... a 1985 cr500 with a fresh carb gas and plug will run on par with any 450 currently produced...AND THATS what is impressive...JUST STAY OUT OF THE WHOOPS LOL

    Dave Moore Racing

Only 400+ big bore worth it's salt is a puma but prepare for a 4-5k pull for it, but for 75+ rwhp I find it justifiable. A 330 esr cylinder with porting from any of the mentioned will out run 90 percent of the 450s out there

    Dave Moore Racing

a little bit of a thread revival but.... having had ported cylinders from many of the large names I would say the hardest running stock cylinder bike I owned/built was from Mccoy. Another cylinder I owned that really stood out was Kim from K&T, that one had so much midrange!! He can build a great duner. Matt shearer is not that far behind and neither is Hybrid. NEVER EVER deal with DMR, he was big back in the day and I still have a cylinder by him that runs really well. However he is a horrible business man. I have had customers burned in the past pretty hard, I still have one customer I REPLACED his cylinder for when Dave left me out in the dark.
