OK, thx...now that I know what I'm looking for think I found it, and made some red marks.  Not positive on the flow direction, but looks like water exits the thermostat housing thru vertical nipple to hose #2, eventually connects to hose #3 (thru a bunch of plumbing) and enters the throttle...

If we are posting drain plug porn, here's what a 2D looked like when I pulled it this weekend. The "unhappy bearing" noise gets better when the clutch is depressed, and the trans shifts fine, but it's loud at cruise speeds. Hoping just a shaft bearing, but don't know if I will get that lucky. 

Looking to make drive over fender wells on a basic enclosed trailer. if you don't have metal fab equipment, any better ideas than shaping a  couple of 4"x6" (or appropriate size piece of wood or gluelam) and bolting them next to the stock fender wells?  Thx.
