Coil carrier set up?

I am converting a coil over to a coil carrier .

Is the oil set up the same ?

And do you run nitrogen pressure the same ?

Coil carrier, just a little oil for lube and no nitrogen. If you put oil in it you will have some damping from the open piston and if you put nitrogen in it you will have some spring rate from the pressure.

Fox recommended oil level and 200 PSI nitrogen. Alumicraft set up.
 
My King coil carrier is little bit of oil no nitrogen, doesnt even have a schrader valve on it.
 
King recommends a certain amount of oil to be used for coil carriers and no reservoir.
Amount of oil is based on shock size/stroke.

Coil carriers can have nitrogen/no nitrogen on them.
It is a preference.

I had Kevin McMullen add Shrader valves to my coil carriers just so I have another knob to turn.
 
I still prefer to use a reservoir or an emulsion shock on coil carrier set ups. 90% of the coil carrier set ups I've done are that way, and simply just removing the valving. the other 10% are the shocks with 0 Schrader valve or anything, and those have to be partially filled with oil to account for the fluid displacement.
 
This is all really good info but definitely a bit confusing. I am about to add bypasses to my car as well and thought all I had to do was remove or go with a very light shim stack on the coil overs to add a bypass.

When you run a emulsion shock with no valving as a coil carrier . Do you still set up the oil and nitrogen pressure as you would if it was a emulsion shock ?

You're correct. A very light shim stack will help the bypasses a little but if you want your bypasses to have complete control remove the valving in the co completely. as mentioned before the piston alone will add the slightest bit of dampening and the nitrogen pressure will add very little compression. This puts 99% of the work on the bypass.
