Off season remodel and prep

What windshield fits in your window frame? I'm assuming you built the frame built to fit a specific one. I just picked up a 2006 Desert Dynamics Sand Works (as far as I can tell) and the wife wants a windshield put in it. I'll put a flat one in if I have to, but I like the curved ones better. Also, what thickness is your window frame material?

The glass most commonly used is a fw471 from an old Toyota pickup or for runner then cut to size. The frame is made with 16g 6061 aluminum.

Flat is the quick and painless way to go for sure.

You could do a flat windshield in your car for $300-$600 including glass if you’re willing to cut it your self.

A curved windshield is far more tricky to cut and will run anywhere from 800-1500 bucks depending on complexity for the frame plus coating and the glass will be an additional 3-500

This seems to be the standard from all the quotes and info I have gathered
 
Thanks for the info! I will make the window frame myself. Then see who can cut and install the glass. If it gets too difficult I will just make a flat one and try to do it all myself. I have a bunch of stuff to do to the car before it is dune ready. Hopefully it’ll be ready for next season!

Where are you located? if you're in the phx metro area Rad glassworks will be your go to guy to supply and cut the glass for you. I have cut several flat windshields but for the car glass it is very tricky and Rad seems to have the procedure down pretty well.
 
I live in So-Cal (near Edwards AFB). My neighbor does auto glass, however I'm not sure if he does custom glass cutting. If i have to travel to get it done so be it. I used to live in AZ and have lots of friends there to visit!! one way or another I'll have to get it done.

Hey gents, The car is complete! This is my first successful radius windshield cut and this is a tricky job so shout out to all the dudes that have this process dialed in. I also added some covers to the lights. Our firs trip of the season will be the 23rd. I cant wait to see this thing in dune trim.

I also added some covers to the lights. Our firs trip of the season will be the 23rd. I cant wait to see this thing in dune trim.
Nice. What vehicle did that come from? Crazy shape you started with.
 
@Kraut_n_Rice the glass came out of an old Toyota pickup. Which seems to be the most common glass for sand cars.

The biggest key to cutting glass is to relieve any stress possible cutting the corners first takes some of the compound radius (bowl) out of the glass making the sides come off easier.

I had to make sure the windshield worked. Im sorry you had to see her in her house slippers I really need to get a set of desert tires for this thing.
 
well the car did great, I am still working through some suspension tuning and need to go up on the lower rear springs a little but other than that she performed flawlessly.

between now and the old school round up trip I'm going to update the lighting as this thing has some very old underpowered rigids, adjust my boys seat so he fits in there a little more comfortable and safe, add the heavier lower springs to the back, and try to figure out how to wire up my Lowrance to the ignition so it keys on instead of having to reach over for the button every time.

Well I'm a psycopath and decided to do some summer upgrades early.
I had a fast intake laying around and some stock 243s so i decided to have them cnc ported with a valve job and .660 spring set.
while i had it apart i did
a new Melling oil pump
full roller timing set
a new cam
ls7 lifters
trunnion kit
upgraded push rods
and a new fuel system
along with a new fast tb and some new injectors.
as well as a head stud kit

she goes to steve cole tomorrow morning for a good tune-up
it should make some good power over the lame ol ls1


A couple things outside the motor that got sorted out were the new lighting package and some slightly heavier lower rear springs went from 500s to 550s to get some more g out control
the old rigids work well but the newer versions with newer tech are so much brighter so i went with two of the side shooters for the a pillars and a pair of new pro pods for the bumper to compliment the new 6" E-series MUCHO BETTER!
