Los Angeles Is Hiring Machinist Apprentices.

I guess i am confused about the WTF, to cheap?
95K in California is pretty much like $60K in the rest of the Lower 50 states, City Tax, County Tax, State Tax, Income Tax, High Cost of Living.
Also at the Ready Mix Company i work at the Truck Drivers depending on overtime make from 50k - 130k,

The WTF is due to no trade schools, no students, nobody to hire. Skilled labor
seems to be a ghost. My son in law owns/runs a CNC shop. He would hire,
if they were available. No joy.

Trade schools exist, smart parents and smarter kids are pursuing those trades again.....

Dirty Work, Clean Money is real.

Our stock room kid probably makes $50k with a bit of overtime. That's pretty much entry level money anymore. You can nearly clear that flipping burgers.

Sounds like pretty descent money for starting an apprenticeship
Your not going to get full journeyman wages when you cant even tell a drill bit from a dial indicator
Shit, throw in some basic GD&T and there's another 2-3 years of learning through actual application.

And... that Dial Indicator... how long would it take them to absorb accuracy differences between large and small tips... 🤣 .

Our Stockroom guys (Contracted DHL) here in San Diego make 40k/year. That's embarrassing in my eyes.

Way better off there than getting some BA you have to explain and applying for random desk jobs.

They exist and are expensive. no guarantee they get a job as well. The trade schools are all for profit and only care about your cash. Don't get me wrong, they are better than nothing but only a small % of the people that go thru trade schools end up in that field anymore.

I was not clear, because yore 100% correct - they are the newest money grab $$

I graduated LA Trade Tech - Jr. College - Mechanical Engineering and Design (cheap), my daughter did nursing, son is doing electrician all at our local Community Colleges. CA Promise program paid that (everyone qualifies for first 2 full years tuition if carry full load, straight out of HS)

The basic education of lower certs is right there, get yore foot in the door to a Union, further schooling, etc.

🍻🍻

I agree but remember flipping burgers is just a job and always be just a job but an apprenticeship can be the opportunity to a good career

Getting in the door is the key to everything, doesn't matter what.

If your kid is in college and isn't doing an internship, that degree is useless. get your feet in the door and prove your worth.

Plenty of trade schools. Plenty of people willing to work. Shops need to realise that if you want skilled labor you have to pay. $25 an hour is the new $14 an hour. A good machinist is worth $50+ an hour here in Phoenix.
