i am setting up a motor with a dry sump and was wondering does the oil back flow to the engine or will it not flow past the gears when the motor is not running .

I cant seeing it back flow to the engine when the motor is off that would cause problems ….

Isn't the tank like 4-5 gallons? I'd say that's an issue... :ROFLMAO:

Ya !!!
So what is stopping the tank back flowing to the motor ? I have 2 scavenge pumps that feed the top of the tank . Not a problem . The oil feed pump has 2 sets of pump gears and feeds off the bottom of the oil tanks .
Can the oil not get by the feed pump gears ???

I assume it could. Isn't there a check valve in the tank though?

No check valve
And i would be scared shitless to have any type of restriction in a feed line !
Guess i can set it up and see what happens . Just first time with a dry sump and i do understand siphoning …. Lol

That’s what I did way back when, lol. Never even thought about backflow.

I would think the gear driven pump with tight tolerances would not allow flow when stopped. Especially viscous fluids.

You only get the oil from the galleys and passages draining when off. Otherwise, the 5 gallons would flood the motor when the oils level settles

It'll probably leak some back through the pump to the bottom of the oil pan area but mot much in the short term. Just let the motor spim over for a few extra seconds on it's first fire up in the morning, it'll pull everything back to the tank pretty quick
