Highway Star

Just somewhat of a guess....but, my guess is that the strap is rated at 5K-10K.

Any possibility that it crosses something that has a sharp edge?

DOT requires a minimum 4 point tie down for cars on a trailer (2 front and 2 back) DOT § 393.128 . Looping a single strap or chain through like that only qualifies as a single point tie down. There is an exception that allows a single chain to be looped through if binders are set on each end with a slack chain in the middle where you effectively create two tie down points.

DOT regulations only carry weight if they are enforced. And by my observations i NEVER see anything like this enforced. Lots of sketchy shit going on the highways, those "Mexican Movers" with shit piled 12' tall and pulling "In tow" vehicles. To gringo methy tweekers with thier dumpster finds jammed into a SUV. And not to leave out the short little yellow guys with their clapped out black smoke spewing Isuzu box trucks loaded down with ice chips and frozen squid falling out the back.

Don't forget us cheap ass old white dudes that don't want to pay for 4 straps when 2 work perfectly fine.

Enforced or not, the DOT regs are based on what’s safe. I was simply pointing out that looping a single strap in that manner isn’t very safe. Of course, someone will tell me they’ve been doing it for 30 years and never had a problem so it must be safe 🤪🤪

Straps?
Doesn't the transmission have park?
Set the parking brake if it makes you feel better. Jeez!
