Back in the day, I "Rebuilt" a 1200 cc VW engine.
In those days, VW parts were very cheap.
I bought a gasket kit, a set of piston rings, and a set
of engine bearings. I lapped the valves and assembled the engine.
It actually started and ran. It lasted for two years.
Total cost, less than $50.00.
