So yes and no.. The first thing all the lawyers I interviewed for my situation said was (in legal speak). Get a new phone.. I told them I wasn’t in the car and if anything it woulda prove my innocence. In the case of your buddy I’d wager he voluntarily gave them the phone under pressure...
