    Before getting the block welded for close deck, look into Darden sleeves. Probably 3x the cost but much better product.

    I haven't and I still use stock springs and retainers in my heads. I rarely hit the rev limiter at 6500 rpm. I am usually in the 5500 or less range.     I used these block guards from Halferland. If i remember, they are roughly $450. Not as good as a closed deck but i think would have prevented what you experienced.

    Tasty milkshake. Both times I blew the head gasket it blew between cylinder and water jacket. No water in oil. Combustion would pressurize the Cooling system and blow fluid past the radiator cap. Water temp gauge would be all over the place.

    I blew 2 Felpro head gaskets right away. Pure junk. I have since ran cometic and had zero problems. I did deck the heads before putting it back together
