    Freshening a turbo J35

Took a little break on the engine rebuild (waiting on parts) and ended up welding an older cracked omf wheel.  had to bring the torch out to preheat the wheel ended up just welding completely around the wheel. It passed the soap and water test after reinstalling the tire and airing it up to 20...

    Freshening a turbo J35

The engine is a j35a4. The blocks sleeved stock crank. H-beam rods, cp forged pistons, and a set of heads loaded with ferrea valves and supertech springs and retainers. I ported the heads about 10 years ago.    We freshened the engine up at the beginning of the season. And cheaper out on an...

Dyno days are super freaking stressful.  We got the electrical "completed" it was done enough to get it tuned. this was about a week before Christmas the goal was to be ready for New Years. The first pull I had all of the holes plugged on the top of the wastegate...bonehead move which...

Starting to get the dyno day. Here I was cleaning up the Holley harness and moving plugs around to match my backward intake. Very tedious, after this the car went to my buddies where he completed the cars wiring…good enough to run we still need to go clean it up.

So after the engine was reassembled I began the process of of putting the intake and exhaust back together.   Before the turbo went to its final home I went ahead and match ported the T6 exhaust housing to match and have a smoother flow with the divided flange.

At this point it was time to tear the engine down to gap the rings. The original top ring gap was .014"...That's probably why these things are temperamental when the get too hot. I calculated the ring gap to a very safe and rather unnecessary .026" for the top ring and .028" for the bottom. I...

The next task was figuring out how I was going to build the intake and exhaust downpipe/uppine. I ended up using 5" 304 stainless steel. Mandrel bent tubes of that size are hard to find and very expensive when you do find them. I used my bandsaw to make all of the pie cuts...very inconsistent...

    Front tire info

12.50s are about 36” at 6 psi and go up from there drastically. I think Kartek says they’re 37.5”  12.50 at 20 psi roughly 39” compared to a bfg 35

I have my boost reference on the charger side of the intercooler. It peaked at 7.2 pounds with 6 psi springs in them. I wasn’t too worried about it. One day I will flip the switch to see how the high boost works which should be 50% duty cycle.    the horse torques are much appreciated

I had to make some mounts for the intercooler. And I wanted them to have a little bit of aerospace flare. Aero tube looks badass and was completely unnecessary.

I had to shorten the charge side of the turbo about an 1". I then chucked the V-band portion into the lathe and trued it back up. I also sanded the throttle body to get the angle closer to lining up with the intercooler. I welded the other side of the motion race works quick seal clamps to the...

I tried my hand at building my own air to water intercooler. I started with a Garret Core and went from there. The Tial blow off valve had to get mounted to the intercooler because there is no intake runner other than the intercooler. It uses #12 water lines and a Meziere water pump.

Ordered up an Holley Ultra low ram. The throttle body angle coming out of it was incorrect for my application so I decided I'm just going to cut this brand new $800 manifold apart. I needed to get the angle right so it would line up better with my air to water intercooler.

I ordered up those really cheap flowtech turbo stainless headers off of amazon. I couldn't build them for $250 that's for sure. I went ahead and mounted the turbo using one of those fancy Billet Maven mounts. Got to get some learning experience purging and tig welding Stainless.
