Sucker just took a crap. I figured instead of me spending 8 hours OCD-ing over reviews, fake reviews, shill reviews, weekend warriors, I wanted to ask all you fine folks, what's the best brand lately? Is Rheem still the go-to brand? Any cash and carry hookups?

The main concern is replacing the anode rod every 3-5 years. Buy a reputable name brand tank. Replace the standard ball valve with one with a larger opening and I prefer an all brass valve. This aids in flushing the crud out of the tank when you replace the anode. This can net you a water heater that can last almost infinitely.

Thank you for not calling it a HOT water heater.

I replaced mine with the Lowes store brand 8 or so years ago. No complaints.

I was told that Home Depot Rheem is not as good as supply house Rheem.

That being said: this is CA. New gas water heaters are emissions compliant. Take that with a grain of salt.

Depending on how hard your water is buying top of the line stuff only adds months not years to the life of the WH. Go to your favorite big box store ( Unless you know a plumber who can buy wholesale) and get the middle of the road one price wise. They all work and they all wear out, I will only get 7-10 years out of mine. It's not a big ticket item so I am not going to sweat the small stuff.

I was doing a little reading and it appears that I would have to replace my gas lines and upgrade my electrical. We plan on doing a remodel in the next 3 to 5 years so I'll just wait for that...
Ain't nobody got time for that shizz!! 🤣
Bruh, Go Tankless.

It's 2026 for Christs sake..
Appreciate the replies folks! Middle of the road box-store model it is!

One last question. Anybody work with these new SharkBite fittings? I see them used quite often but I don't know their durability. Ifeel like "if you have to ask, you already know the answer" is coming, but I'm feeling a little lazy today and don't feel like soldering this shit. Was never any good at it. My shut off valve was frozen and I damn near broke it getting the water off, so I need to replace that minimally.
1996 water heater btw!!🤘🤘

#1 Bradford White, Usually a supply house
#2 AO Smith, Supply house or Lowe's

Stay away from Rheem, they are the worst

x3. Copper doesn't seem to last here anyway.
Wish I would've used them when I replaced my WH. My house only has copper on the stub outs. The rest is CPVC or the like. When I put my WH in I must've cracked one of the joints behind the wall for it to just barely drip. Took until last year for the water to be seen. Nice moldy mess behind the drywall...
