I have had three quotes for front door replacement with a wider door and adding a security door over that.

The pricing is way higher than I ever thought. 7-9k for one door with security door. Am I just old a cheap? Or is this robbery?

The door is nothing fancy 42”x80” with side glass. And this is without hardware as I want a keypad or thumbprint access.

All this just the update the 1970’s glass block look to newer.

I grew up in the building material business, admittedly long ago, and sold trailer loads of steel doors. That pricing sounds outrageous. Everything has gone off the rails, especially after the China-Clap.

Seems high but not that high. I know of two people who just did new front doors and both were almost double what your looking at.

Doors are crazy expensive right now. I did my double front doors and it was close to 9K if I remember correctly. I think my french doors to my backyard were around 10K. That was within the last year.

If installed, that might be a little high but not crazy. Demo, little bit of framing/prep, set door, hardware, and then another door. Then install trim.

I didn't want to read this thread and see the high pricing confirmed.....New Front Door and entry is on the "LIST"

I have seen door pricing all over the yard. May be time to paint and replace the glass to update the look you're going for instead.
I had a great door guy for years, but he has recently retired. I recently had a 42" x 96" door completed for about 4K.

No telling what is underneath. It's not cut and dry. Looks to me like a lot of work to get it right. Are they replacing the header? What about the sill connection? Try to save the siding and the drywall repair inside. Painting, etc. If it is just the doors? Ouch! My wife designs custom homes and the prices are through the roof!

PS. I used to build homes and I can't believe how expensive things are today compared to the old days.

Good luck

Its DDFD(done done fucking done), all of it. The new door is wider but same height. The interior space is the same width as the exterior space. Should be easy to do, but i aint no carpenter.

Cause if you buy a good one, it will probably outlast you.

Well...

Me for sure. I dunno about you! 😁
