I've been wanting to put a windshield in my car forever, but cutting glass is a pain, and just never got around ro it. Last week I saw a advertisement for windshield protection film. Kinda like ppf, but made specifically for glass. So it got me thinking, could I use lexan and then cover it inside and out with the film? It would be far easier to make a lexan windshield, and the film should keep it from getting sand blasted. When it does, just change the film. Hell I could put 2 or 3 layers on and just remove a layer when it gets shitty. Like tear offs on a larger scale. The film claims to be super resistant to chips and pitting......

I have considered trying this film on top of my glass windshield as well… because even they get pretty pitted after a season or two of duning.
 
I have a glass windshield and did a "self healing" clear coat wrap. It works great. If you get scratches or scuffs, just clean it and let it sit in the sun a bit. It smooths out and you can't notice. It is a little more expensive ($300-ish) but absolutely worth it.

how long have you ran it? Does it get pitting like the regular glass windshields do?
 
I've pondered doing a lexan or plexiglass windshield too. I'll be watching to see how / if this works if anybody tries it!
 
Racecars run lexan windshields, and R-compound tires blast the shit out of them. Just cut/buff them with lexan polish (Novus 3-step is what we used) and they're good as new. Use hardcoated polycarbonate sheet, and clean with Plexus or other plastic cleaner only.

Not sure how long it would take for them to get opaque, but the Beijing Designs lights I used to run (also Lexan) would last a year-ish before becoming opaque.

Eventually, it'll need replacement. We would use the old one as a plug to form the new one.

I haven't noticed any real issues. On one trip, I had a bunch of mud and when I wiped it off it streaked a little. I then cleaned it and let it sit in the sun an it cleared right up.
